Looks like you have hit the nail on the head without seeing the car again!

The guy looking at the car has told me that misfiring issue is now sorted, and it was due to a leak in the vacum pipes.

however the fan on the right (coolant fan 2) has stopped working (electrical signal goin to it has been checked), its throwing up an error

18393 - Coolant Control Module 2 (J671) , P1985 - 002 - Malfunction

so he is going to replace it before I get the car back. Any idea on how much this electric motor costs?

Yes. Silly money. At least that's the cheaper of the 2 fans. But is it the fan or is it the control module?

Do log the MAFs when you get the car back so we can see the difference pre / post vacuum leak.

I've got that, Doug said it was probably the fan, give it a kick-start with your hand (or be smart and use someone else's hand). If it runs ok with a nudge then it's the fan, if it don't, then it's a switch or some sh1t like that. Not sure if he said anything about the controller, that'd be pricey.

Oh dear, well I'll let you all know the damage when I find out! He said the fan just about moves with a very strong push, the signal going to it is fine, so I assume its the unit itself.

I think/hope its just the fan but he did say that as it isn't working, he wouldn't know if the control module was effected until it was replaced by a working one.

Do you keep an eye on your coolant temp bam? just wondering how important this fan is? It would just piss me off too much to know it was broken even it it wasnt critical though.

You've have to be insano not to change a cooling fan in a engine that gets as hot and is as expensive as the one in the RS6. The module is cheaper than the fan. Fan is about £200 I think. Module about 50 less.

My module has been throwing a code since i bought the car, the fans work fine and i activate them every once in a while with VCDS just to be sure.

I'm not driving it at the moment but it'll be fixed before I do. It's there on the list with all the other niggles.
It's been a while since it's seen open road, I had to use jumper leads to start it on the weekend, just so I could some other faults. That'll be a new battery on the list too.

Effin' car.

Its looking good, apparently a bend in somewhere where there should not be a bend was putting pressure on the fan from a certain angle and causing it to not turn freely. Im not too sure on the details but he asked me if the car has had a knock to the front, and it hasnt, so I may have banged or knocked something in my frustration..... Anyway, he said it wasnt severe at all, bent back to shape and the car is sorted! Picking it up tomorrow!
