Nav Unit Upgrade?

Post by Sambo » Wed May 09, 2012 9:01 pm

Hi everyone.

I've just left a deposit on my firdt RS6 after spending the past few months looking. I will post up photos as soon as i pick it up in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime I am trying to fill the time by hording parts for it. One thing that I would really like to upgrade is the RNS-d navigation. Ideally I would like an factory look and spec of the RNS-E but they are pretty pricey. With that in mind does anyone have any suggestions as to which aftermarket systems are good....I was thinking of a Pioneer or Kenwood but just wondered what the experiences of others were and if there are others worth considering.

By the way..

FON

Oh and before I forget, do remember that any aftermarket unit will lose DIS compatibility.

FON big fella get some pics up or it dont exist !

Well if you want to keep an OEm look which in my humble opinion looks better inside the car with dash matching etc get yourself a RSNE upgrade first of all. You dont need to go new, there is second hand and breaking parts around if you look. I have just had fitted the alpine KC -45i Ipod compatiable interface with connection in the arm rest to the RSNE set up. The kit allows you to play videos TV and just about anything off your phone or ipod whilst also charging it. You can also have a the bluetooth. The other good thing about it is that it allows you to retain the CD player and SD cards. It also retain full functionality of the DIS display including sat nav directions etc. After a little hiccup with it draining the battery ( they came back out and fixed it) it is now working fine and I like it. I also had a new updated disc and sat nav reciever put it. Speak to the guys at Hazzy Dayz www.vwcruise.com There is a full video demo on their site and they come out to you. Not the cheapest but good service and back up if someting goes wrong.

Thanks for all the advice. I have looked through the previous posts on this subject and I'm still struggling to make the decision to be honest.

I would love the OEM look of the RNS-E plus the seamless integration would be great....I do think thay are a bit overpriced tbh. Looking around Pioneer systems appear to be a bit cheaper and sound like they have better features plus I am not too bothered about the lose of DIS on after market systems.

I have looked at pictures of them installed in a few Audis but it is difficult to tell if they look ok from the pictures......think I might get one and if it doesn't float my boat could sell it on and save a little more for RNS-E.

FON.

Rule 1.

RNS-E for DIS.

Pioneer/Kenwood for non-DIS.

Use Virdee to get the aftermarking lookin' flush.
No matter where you go, there you are.

From memory bakustax was getting an aftermarket unit fitted, might be worth sending him a PM or asking on here as to his experience/opinion?

Good luck

I thought that went pear shaped and the unit turned out to be made out of old toothpaste tubes or something?

If you do not mind me asking where did you buy this from? did you fit it yourself?

I bought the RNS-E from EBay, I already had the Bluetooth module from my old A4 B6 retro fit. Fitted it and coded it myself, I made a wiring loom up in the end as I had various bits left from the B6 but kufatek make plug and play wiring looms depending on your options.
