MMMMMMH Help PLEASE

Post by delboymafia » Thu Dec 15, 2011 6:57 pm

Hi all, when ever i start the beast up first time in the morning i get this signal come up, it only appears once (always on first start up), it beeps a few times then goes. I was wondering is it my tyre pressure sensors or my brake pads getting low. In the book it says brake system failure :( . Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks. Chris.

ah ha!! Ive had that a few times and worked out that if I put my foot on the brake on ignition but dont take it off and select gear straight away then it warns me with that same thing! I suppose it's senses the brakes being locked..... Any way if I remove foot from brake and then apply again before gear select its fine and comes up OK. Try that or just dont touch the pedals on ignition..but do so when selecting gear

Watch out for those exclamation marks.

Have you checked your brake fluid level. I think it can only be that or the pads.

Mine does this sometimes when I leave the car out and the temperature goes below zero. I just ignore it. Yours sounds more systematic though.

Correction, the pads have a different symbol. Just brake fluid level then, or MEV's thing :)

Process of elimination, as also had fluid and pads checked on MOT (at least 5k on them) and since then it hasnt done it again. :)

Wow cheers for all your help, knew i could rely on you chaps. Checked the brake fluid level its full. Hoping its just like what MEV says, i park in my garage on a slope so i always use the brake. If not maybe i should take it to the garage and ask them to look at brakes!! Chris.

Interesting - mine did this a couple of winters ago when doing first daily starting in really sub zero conditions...

I also found my power steering noisy when cold, so diagnosed low PAS fluid levels - but I cannot for the life of me think where the fluid went to?!?!

Hi.

You should check your servo oil level as well. It also triggers this error as the brakes are assisted by the servo pump.

Simple fix

If there is a fuse box on the battery, give the connectors a clean

I've had it a few times and only when I'm in a rush... I've worked out that it is due to low battery voltage after startup. If I move to D straight away it is likely to appear, but if I wait a second after starting and then select D it will never show.

Ok chaps, went to the beast today, started up, left it running for a min or so, then bingo selected D, no warning light. Thank you all for your help. Chris.

Rupert - sounds like a soltution this as had my babe looked at today for a new key configuaration ( Timpsons @ £132 ) and it did show on his fault checker as being slightly low on voltage 11amps. So that figures when I start up quickly and select gear it also gives me the bird! So Delboy check you battery voltage also.

Might explain why when it's particularly cold it does it too, because the battery will give out less voltage especially having just been used to start the engine.
