Have i missed anything?

Post by bilko1 » Mon Aug 29, 2011 3:03 pm

My car is being shipped off to Grizz for a recon gearbox and the ACE torque converter to be fitted, while the engine is out i thought i'd get all the niggles sorted out plus a few extras.
I've got timing chains and tensioners (the rattle annoys me) Cambelt including all rollers tensioners etc, waterpump and thermostat, cam cover gaskets, Pre-cat O2 sensors and exhaust gas temp sensors. Hopefully this lot will keep me going for a few years. Have i missed anything?

Instead of loba, you could "hybrid " your current turbo?
Port manifolds
3" down pipes
Bigger injectors

I'm sure grizz will advise, but I'm sure there are some crank oil seals that are prone to leaking. Easy to do when the engine is out.

You could always have yuor turbos remanufactured. Not terribly expensive and buys you peace of mind. Especially if you have been on stock intercoolers and not been leak detecting regularly. Or loba :)

If you are going catless are you having the downstream lambda sensors mapped out?

Uprated valve body?

There's plastic a tube in the oil cooler that is prone to leaking coolant. It's a biatch to get to. Would be much easier with the engine out.

Change your V51 circulation pump while the inlet manifold is off. It's a cheap part and could save your turbos since it fails often and discretely.

Thanks Shoppinit :bigwave: i'm having the post cat O2 sensors mapped out :bigblink: I did think about getting the front and rear crank seals but i'll let Grizz sort them as my TPS had enough trouble finding the EGT sensors and some other parts, i had to get them the part numbers :nodder: I'll tell Grizz to check / replace the oil cooler pipe and i think i could manage the V51 pump if need be.

No, got the dreaded torque converter stuck off code so getting it sorted before it takes box out and contamiates everything.

Yeah still got the 335i. Been playing with it and its fun but I miss the 4wd traction cos this thing just can't get the power down as soon as it rains. Even loses traction at 70 in the dry if you are too aggressive....here's why LOL!! This was before I fitted decat pipes (to help save the turbo's).

Big thanks to Grizz, Lee and Rhian for getting my car sorted :beerchug: Poor Lee and Grizz had the engine out 3 times due to a leaking turbo feed pipe :drink: Purrs like a cat idling and roars like a lion when the loud pedal is pressed :bigblink: and no more strange gearbox behaviour :jump_clap: Managed 24 mpg on the 275 mile trip home, not bad considering the 7 mile tailbacks on the M56 and me playing with the loud pedal and grinning like a cheshire cat most the way :bigblink:

Good stuff! I'd be keen to know how the ace tc goes and if it's the best choice if the gearbox goes.
