Post by RS6_TOY » Mon Jul 11, 2011 11:26 am

Hi all after taking my rs6 on 1000 mile road trip my water pump is not happy, and I have to replace it along with the cambelt !! Has Any one got a cam locking tool ?????????? I could borrow or rent, I live in Birmingham and can collect it. I would be most grateful if I could borrow or rent the tool for a couple of days.

You'll need the crankshaft locking tool, too.

Don't forget to replace your tensioners and thermostat, too.

That's brill thanks will do, yer I looked on eBay and they have them to rent it's just they want £130 deposit first along with the rental it's not a problem but would rather give someone on here the money to rent one.

Looks like a fairly straightforward job. I would definitely do this myself if it wasn't for wanted to keep FASH.

Hmm ok, just want to know how would you get the 3 radiators and 1 other cooling thingy out of the way, without disassembling them?
I started the job to replace my thermostat, but as far as I saw I did not have any room to move all the radiators out of the way.
According to ELSA you have to get complete front out of the way and as far as I saw that would mean draining the engine coolant, oil, ATF, the AC...

Not something I have done before and surely also refilling them (ATF and AC) is something I do not want and perhaps even can do.

So tips and trics to remove the front, or even just move the front perhaps a decent 10-20cm without having to drain any fluids would make a big difference.

Haven't seen that writeup before - thanks Shoppinit. Any thoughts from folk on here on using waterpump gasket sealant? Have always steered clear when I've done this job on other Audis (not tried it on the RS6) but assuming you can clean it up without any trouble I can't really see the disadvantage.
