Went to a local tuner with the ecu.
They said its a common error (16985) with chipped rs6 and vw golf cars, especially the abt chip...
They adviced me to rewrite the original software to the ecu, chip it by cmd (italian) tuner, remap the gearbox too and flush/new filters/gaskets the gearbox.
That will solve it for around 1000 euros.

I would like some guarantees before I'd slip them 1K. They cannot know by looking at it if the ECU is damaged or not. If it is damaged it is a waste of time, so only if they will then chip a new ECU for free would I consider it.

Mihnea couldn't be that far from you, have you spoken to him about it? I thought you'd just had a gearbox service? If the TCU is already modified why would you need to have it redone along with a full gearbox service.
No matter where you go, there you are.

no i havent done my gearbox yet, i was planning to do it myself but i think im better off to have it done properly...i even dont know if my box is remapped. i think they will be sure to get a proper ecu chip in combination with a proper gearbox remap.
ive contacted Mihnea but dont get a reply, is he in the Netherlands?
He adviced my to send the ecu to MRC Tuning to repair and chip it...(although i think its better to chip it when the ecu is already installed in my car.)
ive asked him what that will cost, didnt have a answer yet...

update:
ive spoke a local well known tuner in Holland (JD Engineering) who said its a common error with abt tuned cars.
its nothing to worry about, its all workink still fine (chip tuning turbos etc). the only downside of it is that the engine warning light keeps burning, so if something happens in the future with the engine, it isnt noticable because the light is already burning...
ive contacted abt, they adviced my to sent them my chassisnumber and error code to see if the car is indeed chipped in the past by abt. i will hear from them asap...

Sounds promising. Hope they are right.

See what ABT say.

But I agree with JC... don't spend money on a bad ECU unless they'll flash a new one for free if it fails. It's a reasonable request and there's no good reason for refusing.

This error basically means that whomever flashed your car used an outdated file as the base map. You either have to have the original tuner reflash the ecu with an updated file, or like you said, have it reflashed by another tuner. I went through this a while back myself, and opted to have Rich at Viper re-tune my car. I have nothing but good things to say about Rich and his tune.
I got this from other RS6 owner...

Wow, must be quite a daunting experience having to seperate them from your car in such a manner! :?
Bet you're counting down the minutes until it's all returned and working again, and you're able to take full advantage of it!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you (and hope the courier company is a good'un!) :beerchug:

i forgot to mention that Vagcom doesnt notice my rear left parkingsensor is broken after the 16985 error.
maybe related to the 16985 - Internal Control Module: Memory Check Sum Error
P0601 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON error...
Vagcom did mention it before the error.

update:

Rich from Viper Tuning put my ECU back to stock and solved the 16985 error and Viper Tuned my TCU. :biggrin3:
He noticed my ECU/TCU was remapped but couldnt say by whom.

quote:
The Map was not great, did not do much with fuelling and ignition was low so you've not lost anything imo, stock map would be better!

TCU map, not quite sure whats going on there! Best be gone with that!

It will be send back tomorrow. :jump_clap:

So im very happy with that and i hope to have a stage 1 Viper Tuning map soon...

Rich thank you so very much for your effort and knowledge!!! :beerchug:

Me no longer understand?

TCU ok I get that, it will be remapped by Viper, but you mention the ECU is set (back) to stock again, but later you say it will be stage 1?
Is stage 1 stock mapping but without speedlimiter?

I will get stage 1 later, first i have to drive a little while to see if the 16985 error dont appear again. if it doesnt show up after some weeks, then i get stage 1 map... TCU is already done...
