Bookfather will be along soon to say both those look like AllRoads...
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: Inevitable
Mine was also very low , just had it raised 10 mm , transformed the ride ,and still minimal gap between tyre and wheel arch

10mm sounds about right on the front and leave the back as is,I've had a look at the manual that came with the shocks and there is nothing about how to adjust the height , well nothing in English...........Is this something I (enthusiastic amateur) can tackle or is this best left to the garage to sort out?

Re: Inevitable
I love the look of the 2 pics with the car slammed. It makes a massive difference to the looks. I'd be tempted my self if but the drc staying im afraid for the warranty. I Keep looking at mine on stilts
Re: Inevitable
The documentation with the bilsteins is useless. Comlpete waste of paper. I used the instructions for the KW shocks.bakustax wrote:Phil

You can set the height very easily yourself. Just use a bit of common sense. Eg. if you lift the front left up by 10 turns, do the same to the right, etc.
Oh, and make sure you take the weight off the strut (jack it up) before trying to adjust the height or you'll need muscles like superman.
It's funny how you all want it slammed and what I was most worried about was whether I'd be able to lift the car high enough

Re: Inevitable
Got the "C" Spanners out and went for it...thanks to Shoppinit and Phil for the advice...10 turns seems to have fixed it...no more vibration and sitting at a still "cool" height
Fu*king "C" spanners are a bit of a faff though....Ouch!!
Thanks again G

Good job
I love the reg. I imagine it's what a lot of people think when you leave them standing

Thanks Shop
The list is almost complete now....Suspention done , Brakes done , Plugs and Filters done , Wheels done...........now for the damned if you do and damned if you don't............The Frickin Gearbox!!........the cars done 75K and the box has not given any sign of problems...no slippage..... no hunting...nothing.
I've ready many posts and it's the stuff of nightmares!!
Can any-one suggest a competent Garage in the Aberdeen area who can do a gearbox service?.....The guys I usually use won't touch it and having read some of the posts on here I'm not surprised.
I'm erring towards the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" school of thought..............thoughts??

I know it's a bit of a drive but give grizz at unit20 a call about the gearbox service.bakustax wrote:Thanks Shop

Re: Inevitable
Thanks Chunky...It's certainly an option...having read all the nightmare posts I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has, as I said, chosen the "If it ain't broke don't f*ck with it" logic....My car is standard and has not been tracked so the box has not been overly stressed.
I know the "ATF for life" Audi boast seems a bit far fetched but my wife's A6 Avant has just turned 115K with no servicing to the multitronic gearbox and runs smooth as you like.
Any takers on this logic?

Re: Inevitable
At 75k and no complaints how it shifts I'd leave it alone. It has a relatively high chance of developing the TC fault in the future but I don't think a box service at this point would improve the odds much.

Re: Inevitable
There was a survey done on here a while ago for box failures with and without engine mods.
The incidence of failure was about the same whether the power output was increased or not.
This is my theory: there was a batch of bad TCs which hari kari'd and took the box with them when they went. The weak point was identified as a 2p oil seal which leaked preventing the TC getting enough pressure and accelerating the wear on the clutch. The debris from the wear then went into the box and did no end of good. Whether your box went or not depended more on the whim of the oil seal, rather than the amount of juice the engine was putting out.
When you add in the normal incidence of box failure due to oil leaks / incorrect servicing / just bad luck, that amounts to a whole bunch of very large paper weights.
Obviously, the more power an engine is putting out, the higher the rate of wear on the drive train. However I believe that a 660hp RS6 driven by me would last longer (in terms of gearbox) than a standard '6 driven by a nutter who can't find the key to his lead boots.
Anyone want to lend me a 660hp to test this theory? If someone can lend a standard 6 to mooch that would be convenient, too
Don't forget that an autobox is not like a manual box in terms of design life. It must fail at some point, it contains friction material that starts to wear from the very first gear change. A manual box could, in theory, last forever with regular oil changes, but an autobox will have a limited life, whether it's in an RS6 or a Polo.
P.S. Start saving up for a multitronic box

Shop............ the Multitronic is about the only bit on the car thats original!!....I've lost count of the panels and lights I've bought off e-bay to keep the A6 roadworthy..........she's just arrived back in after another bump with a tree this time!
I feel another e-bay search coming on......either that or

Thanks for that JC..........I noticed you had the TC done recently....out of interest and dread....how much were you for the TC problems you had?JCviggen wrote:At 75k and no complaints how it shifts I'd leave it alone. Re: Inevitable
I had the usual TC lock-up failure. Black atf and a little rough on the shift. Had the whole box refurbed with new TC at 112.000km (just under 70K miles but the problems first surfaced at 65K or less) It may have been a pre-existing condition, it had the TC error code first time I ran VCDS about a month or so after buying.
