What next?

Post by MalcolmSu » Sat Feb 12, 2011 10:28 pm

I know this has been debated many times before but I have to move on in the next 2-3 months and replace my RS6 with something else. I've a long list of 'must haves' and very few cars tick all the boxes. My limit is £30k so, whilst a C6 would be almost perfect, it's not in my price range yet.

One car that satisfys quite a few of my requirements is the V10 Audi S8. One factor that's got me nervous - and I'll probably never satisfy this until I test drive one - is traction on snow and ice. Over the last really heavy snow up here (Scotland) I was never stuck once in the RS6, making it in to work every day and home in a couple of hours the night everyone else seemed to spend the whole night in their cars. I remember one day when I sailed past a whole Q of cars headed by an S8 stuck on an incline. Later that day I returned and it was still there parked up on the verge. Maybe it was the driver but that sort of cast doubts on my potential future car choice.

Anyone driven both an RS6 and an S8 prepared to make some comparisons here?

EDIT: Ooops I missread it as an S6 not S8

I looked at the s6 avant to replace the rs6. With an exhaust they sound amazing. It will be slower though and no turbo's to play with either. Not sure why it would have got stuck in the snow though. Don't they have better weight distribution than the c5?

My budget wasn't quite so good so I was looking at ones with more miles plus I thought it would feel slower partly because it is and partly because its probably more refined so it would hide it well. Very very nice cars though

V10 S6 or S8 are good buys

If I had a family I'd go for the S8 all day long ... hold out for a fully loaded one which has depreciated faster than a stone with a mahoosive boulder attached

Might be worth waiting for the new S8 though. New ETKA confirms it to be a 4.0T V8 508bhp:
