Wiper Motors
Wiper Motors
Got my car back today after being without it for 4 weeks.
New coilovers and ARBs yeha!!
Pain in the ass though as I put on my wipers and they are running at 1mph
After a few minutes they stop altogether.
Thing is I am taking the car away this weekend and it might well rain.
Would this be the motors or can anything think of anything else.
Are these easy to source and fit (must be done tomorrow)
I have tried taking them off and putting them back on and they are def located properly so ruled that out.
Just fitted a new battery so not that.
Any ideas, I am stressing out and my car is back and running great and have been looking forward to this rally for the last few months.
Thanks
Steve

RE: Wiper Motors
Well known problem on the 6. The wiper arm assembly seizes and needs replacement. Could be the motor, but more likely to be the linkage, I suspect. I think it's a £100 fix.

RE: Wiper Motors
Are these parts standard on the 6 and hopefully not special for the RS6?
Is it something that I should be able to sourced and fitted today?
If this stops me going I will be so upset
Thanks for your input Shop.

They're the same for all A6's I think. A quick call to your local Audi dealer should sort you out.

RE: Wiper Motors
Don't get new ones. Mine seized last year after the wet summer. A good squirt of WD40 got them moving enough to work sufficiently. Then i got some 20/20 oil on them and left them running for 5 mins. Back to normal and havnt had a problem since.
Dont just stick with the WD40 as it wont last. Get some oil/grease in there.

RE: Wiper Motors
Yeah thanks. It will do me for this weekend and then I'll do as you say.
Really can't wait for tomorrow now, the Coilovers and ARBs really have transformed the beast, just a pity the blueflame was the wrong diameter.
Hoping to get a chance to embarass and few porkers tomorrow.

Very good tip, my freshly bought RS6 has been "standing" for a while and the wipers hardly moved, added plenty of oil and they're running like new.

RE: Re: RE: Wiper Motors
My wipers have suddenly gone very very very slow. I see from this thread that its a common problem and that its more likely to be the linkage rather than the motor? Is it just the joints of the linkage assembly which need wd40/oiling/greasing???

RE: Re: RE: Wiper Motors
Did you remove the whole linkage or grease in situ?
RE: Re: RE: Wiper Motors
This seems to be common throughout the VAG range, i've stripped and cleaned A4's and polo's recently. Takes 2 hours at most to strip and rebuild (not done a 6 yet) but i would advise giving the linkages / spindles a lube every month or so to keep them free.

RE: Re: RE: Wiper Motors
Easy to do in situe if you have the red straw thing for the wd40 can. Then just squirt with oil while the wipers are moving.
