I think some things are just pure propaganda and spiral out of control on forums. Replacing like for like isn't always necessary. Someone had to be the first to try Bilsteins on their rs6, and they were likely frowned upon originally, but we all accept this as a safe alternative now. So considering cheaper options shouldn't be shot down blindly. As things get older it's likely more people will develop alternatives for our cars so we should at least keep open minds.

Saying that, brakes, rubber and suspension are pretty damn important.

Completely agree mate. So long as the parts are just as good or better than standard then all is gravy. The thing with Bilsteins though is that everyone knows how good they are so there would be little doubt they would be a safe alternative to DRC. However, when someone throws an unknown into the ring such as this 'falcon fx' set up or whatever its called then you can almost guarantee its poor quality. As I said, I'm all for saving money but the parts need to be up to the job, if not better.

The original point I made leant toward the large number of recent posts asking where is best to buy 'cheap' parts . This would be fine if the post also contained the phrase, 'parts must be up to the job', but this is often not a consideration. Fine if you are buying spares for a mondeo or a vectra but this is effectively a supercar. Propoganda is one thing but here we are talking safety.

lots of people put vreds on, but I believe the only homologated tyre for the RS6 is the PS2 R01.

I can't believe that a tyre that costs half the price will be as good.

Yeah the Vreds I think are the exception to the rule. At the time when they first appeared they were very cheap and there were mixed opinions about whether or not they should be risked. Then someone tried them with very good results. They are not PS2's or PZeros but they are also not Falkens or Yoko's. In my experience the Vreds are actually an excellent tyre and we were lucky to come across them when we did. For your info the Vreds are now circa £200 a corner, much nearer the equivalent qualty tyre prices. If Pirrelis and PS2s are a 10, Yokos and Falkens a 1, then I'd put Vreds at about an 8. In my opinion they were very much up to the job and were a very lucky find rather than a budget option.

ecain 63 i agree with you 100%; you are right and at the end of the day; tyres suspension and discs are what would keep you alive in such a car; and lol i can guarantee you this lol i didnt buy this car on a budget and nor am i on a budget now lol...

Thats the whole reason i run it past everyone on the forum first; in regards to suspension all the cars ive had previously to be honest like my m3, evo, scooby, e39 m5 etc i always used either kw or fk; i know fk are cheap but they are very good quality coilovers and so do KW; but looking at how every1 on here praises bilsteins and having spoken to martin at unit 20 other day i think billies will be what i use...

Im not looking for the cheaper option on anything i just want to know from fellow members like youself if these something similar/better for the same price...

The reason i asked about the discs was i read alot that the drilled discs get cracks in them and from what i understood the phaeton discs are solid; but from what i now understand that you can also get rs6 oem discs that are solid is that right?

I think i need to take time into how i word things from now on... I have and will never cut corners with my 6; i purchased my 6 4 months ago for £17k and have already spent nearlly £4k on it... The reason ive done so is just to put in my head what im driving now is nice and tight...

Also with tyres i wanted to see if i could get from abroad a large amount like a group buy to see if we could all save money; having spoken to some suppliers in germany i see that the saving will only be of around 10%-15% and thats on the wholesale price then you have shipping and tax costs to bring to uk so not worth it for us...

Sorry if ive sounded like a chav owning and rs6 lol; i can assure you im not...

Johnny, your comment caught my interest. A little off topic, but my A4 has been suffering with this 'clunking' when going backwards then forwards, like when parking or doing a 3 point turn. Also (possible seperate issue but I doubt it as they came on at the same time) I am getting a front end vibration at high speeds circa 80mph. I have changed EVERYTHING on the culprit corner (near side front); disc, pads, alloy, tyre, second hand upright even! It doesnt make a blind bit of difference. I'm wondering whether it could be the drive shaft as you've mentioned? But what the hell damages a drive shaft?!?!

After this I cant think what it'd be!!!
I just wanted to comment on this with an update: I replaced the culpritous side drive shaft and the juddering at motorway speeds has all but disappeared. Unfortunately the clunking when performing slow speed maneuvers persists. Search continues...
