Question about H&R

Just been chatting with a fellow RS6 owner who is on H&R suspension.

Funny thing: his car is too low at the back, I find. Waaay lower than mine and he reckons he's got them set at the max height.

I had a look and I could see straight away that his rear springs were shorter than my billies. My springs have about 6 coils, his 5. Not very scientific, I realise, but what I also noticed is that he doesn't have the secondary spring (the one that compresses fully and presumably is just there to stop the suspension rattling when you take off over humpbacks :) ).

Is something missing from his kit? Also, I thought H&R were ride adjustable, but his aren't. Do they do the equivalent of PSS?

Mine are adjustable all round. The back is pretty low, but I could change that I guess, although I've never tried, don't have the spanner...

I was doing the rear pads a few days ago and didn't notice a second set of springs either

I wonder if bilstein springs will fit on there. I suspect there's nothing that can be done with the H&R springs.

H&R are fully adjustable in height. Unless they make a set that are not, which realistically why would you do that? have a look at mine in the gallery, mine were 5mm lower in the rear than the front to allow for getting on the car ferry and cornish lanes, but was still very low.

These are height adjustable, just not enough.

My H&Rs do sit a little low on the back, even though they're at maximum height. I can clearly see the top of the tyre wall though, so there's plenty of room to 'drop it' a bit.

Mine are too low at the rear. I tried adjusting them higher for our summer vacation, and TBH they're still too low.

I am considering replacing DRC with new DRC (don't mock too much) for ride qual issues too...

I was able to try H&R and PSS9 back to back yesterday. The H&R was OK, but the PSS9 was a much more pleasant ride. Have you considered changing for PSS9 instead of DRC?

Also, I can have close to stock height with the PSS9:

If I were to buy again I would go for the Bilstein, not quite as hard core as the KWs I bought and a million times easier to adjust. The H&R are a budget option in my opinion.

Totally agree.

With my DRC inoperative I needed it fixed. Grizz could not get Bilsteins quickly but had H&R in stock. It wasn't purely a budget driven decision. Hence why I'm considering changing again.

H&R ARE a budget option.... but a very good option. I really liked em, but did not try any of the others. All i know is they would have needed to be bloody good to out perform the H&Rs on the barge. Comfort was not an overbearing requirement for me either... although I found them fine on that front.

Had em on mine from day one. No complaints at all. Perfect compromise between Ride and Handling. Adjustability (Compression and Rebound) to me is not needed unless your going to trackit. I had H&R Coilovers on my 2.7T A6 for 6 years without an issue. There are more expensive options, but in my opinion just not worth it. For Me, anything H&R is TOP NOTCH anyway. Just my Opinion...................... :)

Are the estates heavier at the back? I'm sure this guy's was lower than yours and it was set at max height.

I have an Avant and very happy with the ride quality and height. I dont have a photo handy - here is a link to some images but nothing there to see the height properly. There is a side shot on the track but I am going into a left hand bend and so that is with a bit of roll
