Yes, no probs at all, and that included the trip to Scotland where the car was packed to the gills with camping gear and sat right down on the suspension.drybeer wrote:MartWilliams wrote:Another vote for the Vredestein Wintracs, I put 255/35/19's on mine last year in preparation for my trip to Glen Coe, Scotland. The car and the tyres were awesome in the snow, I was most impressed.
And only checking - were they compatible with the "Nobbly Bit"?

Hi Dave, good call
I'm in the proces of getting ready for this years trip
Both brothers are coming this year, I think the one that didn't go last year couldn't face another barrage of multimedia messages of great scenery and texts and saying how great a time we were having!
Winter tyres are back on, new battery, go to do rear pads still though, oh and get fit!!!! Lots of mountain walking to do.

Thanks for the thread link - those pics are superb - great car, scenery, and phootgraphy!
Just waiting for delivery of the Vredesteins - tippy toeing around on barely legal rears through the Cumbrian snow at the moment....! (Took the mountain bike for the commute this morning tho!) Hoping to get a w/e trip ski mountaineering in Sconny Botland next w/e if the tyres arrive in time. Will post photies if I get there

I have been offered a set of 275/30/19 Conti Winter contact tyres for a stupid price. I know wider tyres aren't ideal in snow, but they will still be far superior to summer tyres.
Question is, I know that 275 summer tyres fit on the RS6 with the knobbly bit filed down (which I have), but will winter tyres of the same size fit? I am assuming the overall width is identical - does anyone know?
Thanks,
Mart.

C6 RS6 Plus with a few sensible mods...
Lived in the Arctic (way north Sweden) for 3 yrs, so can fully appreciate winter tyres. Up there they have little metal studs built in, which is illegal in most other European countries. Means you can drive normally comparative to summer driving, with very little degradation in road holding. What I learned though is that thin tyres on a heavy car is best. Also, winter tyres, with studs, are utterly woeful on a warm spring day. Go figure.
C5 RS6 Avant. Muggle Blue, Black leather, PSS9s, Hotchkiss ARBs, Grizz's BIG brake kit, Phaeton cooling ducts.
There's no reason why not. 275s are 275s. In saying that, I run 275/30/19 summer tyres and they do rub a little bit, so I assume a fresh set of tyres will rub in the arches too. Nothing too serious though... unless you've bagged the hell out of your '6.Ceveman73 wrote:I have been offered a set of 275/30/19 Conti Winter contact tyres for a stupid price. No matter where you go, there you are.
As you've had your knobbly ground down I would expect them to be fine. However for winter tyres you want the narrowest size that will fit your rims, not the widest, so I would go sor something narrower if you canCan anyone answer my question - pretty please, with sugar on top? Will 275/30/19 snow tyres fit ok?
