Square tires.

Post by mavada » Tue Nov 23, 2010 9:57 am

Is it normal when my RS6 is in my garage for a couple of days (4) without haven driven it, the car shakes like the tires are somehow having a flat surface from standing 4 days in my garage? Is this common with low profile tires?

No - not normal - and I doubt it's the tyres.

Need more info, but bad handling/vibration when cold sounds like failing DRC to me

Is it not rust on the brake discs sticking slightly?

I've certainly experienced flat spots on tyres from them standing still. This was with Dunlop Sport 9000s, and Pirelli P-Zeros, so both reasonable tyres too.

Standing for 4 days should not do it though, I would have thought a month or more?

I agree with drybeer.

I know that I have to be careful with my old camper van when storing it over winter. You can get flat-spots on the tyres if it isn't stored properly, but only after a long time (months, not days) of it being parked in the same place, so I keep it 'parked' on Axle stands.

It isn't unusual for my other cars to be parked for longer than 4 days without moving and I've never had flat-spots on tyres.

Are the tyres particularly old or do they have some other sort of problems? Checked pressures / side-wall condition etc?

Perhaps as mentioned by others, it isn't a tyre problem at all?

Are your tyres quite old? If the side walls are degrading then they can develop flat spots.

Bought it without warranty.... and yes, the F125 switch has to be replaced, at the rear of the gearbox some fluids coming out... now the bumpy ride when the engine is cold...... what happens next....never but a RS6 without warranty is dhould say by now..........

Is the vibration at all speads of driving and all types or road surface.

I had vibrations at certain speeds and having read this thread thought ***K my DRC is on the blink. So jacked it up, looked for leaks, broken pipes nothing.

So process of elimination began.

Tyres - nope - new set only last month - no lumps or bumps ,side walls look good,no flat spots either

Wheel balancing - This was the problem. They had not been balanced properly, only one set of weights in the middle of the rim on each wheel and not one of them was even close.
All done no more vibrations

If not wheel balancing next step was to have tracking checked, then all the ball joints and bushes, discs but last of all on my list would have been the DRC.

But start with the cheaper to fix issues first

Yes the DRC has it's detractors and this forum is full of the negatives about the DRC system but it's not the source of all problems that occur with these cars.
