It happened this evening...

Post by mrmule » Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:48 pm

OK the inevitable has happened. I escaped the last one, and Cameron bore the brunt of that one, but the box has expired finally in my 'new' one. 68k miles with regular ATF flushes.

Started when I dropped in to sport to over take a truck, and the box started slamming viciously in to gear; I mean SLAMMING, over and over. Then I completely lost drive, and all the auto modes were lit up on the dash. Pulled over, restarted, and had some vague drive, to just get me the few extra meters I needed to get home.

Does anyone know if Doug at MRC has a recovery vehicle? Is he normally allowed to carry out warranty work?

Who is your warranty with? I asked Warranty Direct (WD) and they said as long as my preferred shop's labour rate is under £60 per hour then they'd allow the warranty work to go ahead gratis. The garage has to contact WD and get the work ok'd before anything commences. Could be a long process.
Your biggest issue is getting work booked into MRC, they're usually rammed with business lately. If you have roadside assistance, tell the pickup driver or dispatcher that the car needs to go back to where it was last serviced, be firm with that request. If it's Audi road-side assist then you're a bit poked, it technically has to go to an Audi service centre but try and blag the driver. Just explain that MRC were the last to touch it etc. Worse case, getting delivered to an Audi centre nearby MRC.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Thats great advice thanks Bam. Warranty is with Auto Protect (came with the car - not my preferred choice, but covers the box), and I have AA cover, which I am hoping will tow to MRC. I wouldnt be lying either as MRC were the last to touch it - it has extensive history with them. The labour rate is more than you quoted. I'll give Doug a call tomorrow and see hows he's fixed..

Time to break out your paperwork on Auto Protect to see what they're willing to pay for labour (also check if you need to contribute a %). You know, the only other alternative is Audi work.... and they're £110 per hour... a lot more than MRC, maybe the warranty Co. should be reminded of this.

Sorry I worded it badly; auto protect will pay quite a bit more on labour than you said WD will. That should help matters.

Arse. Feel bad for you. Doesn't grizz pick up cars all over the country? Thought I heard that.

Bad news dude.
As above.
Audi tonbridge did my box and i would strongly recomend you avoid them like the plague. Mart had to put right their feck up.
When my bo's went, i got the AA to recover the evhicle to mart. All very easy. Left the car with him, got the train back, AA reimbursed me for my train ticket and hotel bill for overnight stay. grizz repalced the bo's and CCP picked up a £10k bill. Cushty.
It's all Bollox.

Mooch, thanks for the input. How did you word it when you wanted AA to transfer the motor to Unit 20? I managed to get it home last night; I wonder, will that spoil things now? Should I have left it on the side of the road and called them? Bottom line is it still doesnt work, no matter where its parked up at present...

My policy meant that i could get it recovered from anywhere to a gagrage of my choice. It depends on your policy matey. read up then call up. if you have to be more than a mile from home, get it a mile from home and call em saying you have broken down. If not, tell em it would not drive on start up this morning get it to wherever you choose- if your policy allows.
Paid 99 quid for mine. if grizz had recovered it it would have been £1 per mile. (which is cheap compared to others) then the train and hotel £130.00 train £100 marriot Liverpool. So, my 99 bucks was well spent. Fully transferable- now on my golf. Play the game mate is my advice.

The '6 should always be flat-bedded.
True. I forgot Grizz has a nation-wide pickup service. The last time mine was picked up by Audi roadside/RAC I joked about having it dropped to Grizz near Manc, the driver didn't even flinch, he said it's not uncommon and it'll be no skin off his nose. I had to back down due to the warranty being Audi Mondial, so it had to go to an Audi service centre. Camberley was my choice, and by no means was it my closest stealers and a fair way out of central London.
No matter where you go, there you are.
