Aluuuuuminum

Post by Welky » Sat Oct 02, 2010 9:23 pm

Following on from my 'trim' post a few weeks ago, can anyone recommend a place to get aluminium trim to replace my wood, and don't say Audi as they quoted me £980.00 which is plain bonkers.

Yep, I've searched high and low. Challenging is an understatement.

Cheers Dave, i'll give Grizz a buzz.

Anyone dealt with Virdee? I'm beginning to think he's a figment of his own imagination as he's pretty unresponsive to pm's.

Yes. Pleasant, easy transaction (I sold him some B5 RS4 wheels which were surplus to requirements).

As per an old post i made:

All trim starts out as wood trim. Its then sprayed over or layered over with whatever is requested. Why not do the same with yours.

Thanks Eddie, but I'm reluctant to go for the carbon wraps. Just personal taste but I'm not too keen on the results. There's a danger of the panels looking a bit fat, if that makes sense - and I refer to the link to the audizine post. It seems there's a risk of losing the flush finish of the originals.

I wonder if you can get a brushed aluminium foil that can be clear coated for durability?

Yes, its called bacofoil, it is in the third aisle of tescos next to the chickens. If you go down the cosmetics aisle they also sell nail varnish in a clear colour so u can lacquer it

I lol'd. Surely you'd stretch for the extra dosh and go across the road to Waitrose for the thicker turkey foil.
No matter where you go, there you are.

ah but with bacofoil, you get the option of 'brushed' on one side and 'mirror' on the other, turkeyfoil is brushed both sides
