My engine management light is on at the moment as I keep getting the following from Vagcom.

17831 - Secondary Air Injection System: Bank 1: Insufficient Flow
P1423 - 35-00 - - - Intermittent
17819 - Secondary Air Injection System: Bank 2: Insufficient Flow
P1411 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Is this because the pump isn't working as it should or something else generally? As my car starts in the mornings it does sound like it's about ready to take off, not overly loud more like a rad fan spinning up.

Could be perished and leaking vacuum pipes. Most likely solution. Could be a blocked pump, you can take it apart and wash the filter in soapy water (dry it thoroughly).

Or could be the combining valves (they can split - generally visibly).

Or the pump. Listen to see if it comes on when the engine is started from cold :)

Or just go get it mapped out of the ECU, it's a complete waste of space.

Does anyone have a diagram or even better a photos of everything so I can go and do a trace.

A little on the extreme side perhaps. I've not found a need to map the car yet, for the moment there's enough power on tap. When the car feels slow I'll go down the route of mapping it.

Is it easy enough to remove and clean the filter? Mine has recently got a little noisier, not fault codes just wonder if it could be dirty.

My recommendation would be to save spending your money on the pump, which is not required to meet UK emmissions regulation and testing anyway, and instead to spend it on getting the car re-mapped, asking them to map out the pump at the same time. That way you get more beans, and less hassle!!
