Whistling Bose

Couple of weeks ago my Bose sub developed an occasional faint whistling noise. It comes and goes and recently it got louder and happens more often. Very annoying. It's quite random, wasn't able to tie it to anything external like temperature, humidity, runtime etc.

All other speakers are OK, it just concerns the sub, so I think it's that or the amp. Checking the web it seems that these Bose amps are not designed to last (sounds familiar ). It probably can be fixed by changing capacitors and such, so I might give it a go.

But quite probably I need a new Bose amp, anyone knows the partno.? Any good source (not used)? Anyone had similar probs?

Defo the sound system? Does it still whistle when the volume is down? Have you checked the air vents? I know it sounds daft but you never know.

Isn't there a suppressor on the alternator? Maybe it's that which has blown.

The noise is very obviously coming out of the subwoofer.

It was there before and after the alternator was swapped recently.
Also it's not changing with rpm, very random, already checked cables and connectors.

Not keen on removing the side cover, but will have to...

It's actually quite easy to get to. The trim comes off and goes back nicely. Good design. There shouldn't be any high frequency noise coming from the sub. Kinda defeats the object

I have seen threads where people have replaced the bose sub with better (or different at least) units. Looked like hard work though. I'm sure you'll find one on ebay.
