RS6 Avant Rattle

Post by reprs » Wed Sep 08, 2010 11:34 am

My 2004 RS6 has developed a rattle when on uneven roads (loads in Bucks!).

It seems to come from the rear half of the car on the drivers side and sounds like something metallic tapping on something else metallic?? It is not a heavy tap but a light rattle. I have checked the heatshields all around the rear of the car and they are tight.

I know it's a vague explanation but any pointers would be handy.

Does it do it all the time, or only when the car is hot/cold/medium? (exhaust maybe?)

And it is definitely external, not internal?

I go a feeling mine does this as well but from n/s front - it mainly happens on cobbly type roads rather than big old bumps in the road. Dealer has had a look and cant find anything. It is likea suspension patter if that makes sense.

Is this the same you are getting

Definitely external, def underneath and on cobbly roads (or any Buckinghamshire road at the moment!)

It is not a uniform sound though. It sound a bit like a couple of tin cans rattling!

Diagnosed as worn anti-rattle springs on rear pads.....these sound an easy replacement....any recommendations for a source of replacements?
