I asked how they had calculated my speed and the said they had used Vascar to calculate their vehicles speed between Two fixed points while trying (hard) to catch me up which was how they came to 102.35 MPH.

They didn't show me any footage of the pursuit so I don't think they had any actual footage of my car travelling in excess of the speed limit.

I explained that in my defence I was travelling up to Leeds to see my Dad who was ill (this is unfortunately true) and that apart from this pull I only had Three other points on my licence in over 20 Years of Driving (all in the 6 within the last Year!!) which was a 75 in a 60 zone.

The copper stated that over 100 is supposed to be a court appearance and a probable ban so I explained that I needed my licence for my job and it would cause me severe problems.

So how did it end? Did he give you a summons?

Thankfull he said in view of the circumstances he would reduce the charge to only exceeding the 70 limit a fine and Three points.

Now while I think I was lucky enough to be pulled by a copper with a heart it still winds me up that they really had very little real evidence to produce if I went to Court.

As they were trying to catch up they would have no actual video to produce of my car exceeding 70 MPH.

When I first spotted them as they went off the road up the slipway they could not have seen my registration number just a Blue Audi Avant.

Between the point i first spotted them and the point they stopped me was an exit from the A30 so in theory another Blue audi could have turned off there.

If this happens to me again I'll say "I know why you stopped me officer you're after the other Blue Audi Estate that went past me like the clappers Half a Mile back"

Also if you see them behind you tailing you pull over immediately this will stop them from completing their time / distance calculations between two set points.
If they ask why you pulled over say a warning light came on on the dash, they'll believe that if they know anything about Audis !!

I thought about taking it to court but it would have been Two speed cops words against mine and if I'd got off after making them appear in court the next time they spotted me (Cornwalls a small place and not too many RS6's about) they'd pull me and find something (possibly worse) to charge me with.

I really feel lucky to have been let off and hope everything works out for the OP but angry because the speed limits are so out of date with the capabilities of modern vehicles which can stop far quicker due to improved braking systems, tyres and ABS than those from the early 60's when speed limits were first introduced and are far safer with far stronger shells and airbags.

Even a fairly basic modern saloon can easily top 120 MPH.

It has made me think a bit about whether I really need to de-cat it and have it remapped etc as it's fast enough in standard form to do double the Motorway speed limit already.

Blimey. Thats a tough one Rich but in fairness, I would have aken the 3 and a fine, rather than the threat of court and 6 and or a ban...
Still heard nothing yet though.....Ill keep you posted.
Interetsingly enough, I changed plates from my wifes car to my 6 the day I got tugged. It was al square with DVLA but I havd not calle my insurance comp to let them know of the switch.
The fuz while parked behind doing the checks never made the point that the car was uninsured or had the wrong plate etc which has got me wondering.
Time will tell.

Only time i've ever been pulled (3 points and £60) in over 10 years of driving was the day I had my new reg put on the S4, actually on the drive back from the DVLA office. It's enough to make someone believe in superstition!

Well.........The verdict was 6 points, and £320 fine...Phew. However a week later I was tugged for my number plate (black) DOH!, Then 2 weeks after that my standard yellow and white plates still with incorrect spacing were being checked again with another £60 fine and thank god no more points. Needless to say all present and correct now...Damned fuzz.

Now I feel really lucky to have escaped with just the 3 points and £60.00.

I was pulled again last week in the R32.

After picking up one of the boys in the Evening I went the long way home (as you do) and was stretching the cars legs a bit on a piece of dual carriageway (with next to no traffic on it and good visibility) when I see a pair of very bright lights speeding up behind me so I slowed down and he followed me round a roundabout and onto the next bit of road.

As I couldn't see what it was at the next roundabout I went right round and came up behind it.

Turned out to be a BMW M5 with no signs of being a cop car.

After the next round about there were two slower cars ahead and he booted past them so I did the same, the road wasn't clear ahead so He/She didn't have time to pull away which it surely would have.

At the next roundabout he went straight on, I turned off left and headed home.

500 Yards from home I see Blue lights flashing and a BMW police car (not the one I was playing with) so I pull over and the officer asks me if I know why I've been stopped.

"No not really" says I.

"Driving like a nutter" The cop says.

"We followed You up the by pass, off the roundabout and you were clearly exceeding the 30 MPH speed limit (not by much), I know the car is capable of handling, its a fast car, but all it takes is some drunken idiot to step out and you could have killed someone"

He then made me take a breath test which came up negative. (I may drive like a nutter on occasions but never drink and drive).

He gave me a bollocking which I accepted gracefully and told me not to do it again !!

My guess is they couldn't get any video as it was a lot of twisty road and I wasn't really gunning it just not slowing down for the corners.

I think they pulled me as I turned off rather than try to get the M5 driver (even though I was chasing Him/Her) as they continued on at a fair old lick.

So there are some Police officers who are reasonably capable of matching the punishment to the offence rather than just handing out tickets. (Thank Feck)

TBH been here before about 6 years ago, never had any trouble wit police or speeding. I was clocked doing 105mph in outside line of 70mph dual carraigeway at 2340. Went to local sheriff court my solicitor also an audi nut, gave the usualspeach about careful driver all the saftey features of the car (was an S3 atthe time) fact i was an IAm driver and had motorsprts licence etc.
The end result 28day ban , no points and £400 fine.

Ok i know scots law and english is diffrent but like someone else has said before i think it makes no odds what you say how you much you get letters about work etc it purely depends on who the judge is on the day and what his own line is on speeding.

So long as you weren't hard up the car in front etc, my bets would be on a month or two ban and fine in the £500 mark.

But do get a good local solicitor to the area you were caught as they tend to have a god idea of what the judges are like.

I agree about getting a motoring lawyer - I am one ;-). Give me your money!!!

No he's right, it is hard to avoid a ban when going over 100 because the bans are usually short and for some a short ban is better than six points which could take them to a minimum ban of six months if they got to the magic number.....

Bobby
I was stopped officially going 108mph even though that's all they could keep up with me to measure. I went to court and got 6 points and a £470 fine. Had a good lawyer with me, but for sure it's not an instant ban.

I'm not bragging as I have had a clean licence for years now but I was in a bit of a hurry on Christmas day last year and got stopped on the A303 going what they said was 120mph in my Range Rover Sport, after a long "chat" they let me go on my way, no fine or points, very nice coppers.
