OK - just got my 03 RS6 back from my local garage where my very good "local" mechanic has diagnosed a soft (very) shock on the back drivers side.
He mad some enquiries for me to a technical line at VAG and they said the whole DRC needs changing...! I have read a few posts here and realise its a common problem.
What is the best course of action - i gave up on Audi dealerships a few years ago after the Extended warranty lapsed and so far my local man has been excellent - he managed to balance and track the car and get rid of a vibration that two Audi Dealers had tried and failed to diagnose / fix.
Am i going back to Docklands Audi? Did i read a while ago that cars like mine might get a post warranty fix (60k)???
thanks for anyones thoughts
Soft Shock?
Re: Soft Shock?
No. It's up to 6 years old with full Audi service history.Glencoe2 wrote:Am i going back to Docklands Audi? Did i read a while ago that cars like mine might get a post warranty fix (60k)???
Just put coilovers on, KWV3s, Bilstein, or H&R. Add anti-roll bars for flatter cornering. Less than £2k for the lot and no more worries.
A soft shock at the back will be dangerous, you have probably already noticed the rear of the car side-stepping when going over ridges on motorways or around corners?
AMD near lakeside did my KWV3s and H&R ARBs. It transformed the car.
RE: Re: Soft Shock?
Soft shock, sounds like knackered DRC.
Just replace the lot as per Rupert's advice unless you want to take the risk with DRC!!!

thanks all - i have taken the plunge and booked with AMD.
Im afraid after they warranty lapsed (i advised them of a new address and they still sent the renewal to my old one - still fault I suppose), i dont want to give the stealers any more money.
AMD advise me i that unless the anti roll bars are shot they can still use them - is this a good idea?

Yes, you can keep the original ARBs, but the H&R ones are beefier and adjustable, so you can set the oversteer/understeer balance easily. Beefier ARBs will result in less body roll on corners, and they aren't that expensive to buy & fit anyway.
I nearly forgot: change the suspension top mounts at the same time. AMD will know what to do, the top mounts are cheap.

I use Bilstein PSS9 on the original ARBs. Works a charm.
