remap and Audi warranty
remap and Audi warranty
ever since driving a remapped rs6, i've been toying with the idea of having my own done. right now i'm feeling flush from selling my stoptech brakes at a great profit (only joking, Niall..!!).
my quandry is - do i risk losing the benefit of the all-component warranty by having the remap done?
- do Audi check the ECU on every warranty claim, or just engine related ones ?
- also, i've had the gearbox, oil cooler & pipes and cam cover gaskets replaced, what else is likely to go wrong ??
any advice or experience gladly received,
Steve

RE: remap and Audi warranty
I'm sure they'll find any reason not to honour the warranty

Out of interest, how much of the all component cover do you have left and how old is the car?

I don't think Audi check on every claim, but they probably would for an engine/gearbox related one. Best plan is to get to be freinds with your favoured Audi dealer
But - don't forget to inform your insurance company - they certainly will check on a big claim.

car is sept '04, and has full component cover until mar'11. i believe i will be able to renew again up until car has done 100,000 miles. so far the warranty has proved priceless...Out of interest, how much of the all component cover do you have left and how old is the car?

Mine will be 6 years old soon, and I am only offered the named cover now.
Full cover runs out at 6th birthday.
RE: Re: RE: remap and Audi warranty
a 24 month warranty was taken out by previous owner when he bought the car from an audi dealer in mar '09.
turned out to be a class move.
so i guess i'll not be able to renew it as full component cover, only named cover. hmmm. will have to think about that nearer the time.

in my opinion £2700 for named cover isn't worth it. so i'll make as much use as possible of my cover until mar '11 and hope i've got pretty much all the common problems covered.
the only question is to remap now or next march......

Hi, My opinion would be to get the named component, it is expensive but it covers all the big mechanical stuff, DRC,bearings, oil leaks etc! And most importantly engine and gearbox failure! If your box did fail it's 5k straight away, if you had cover you'd get This and the two year parts warranty! I think we can all manage the usual rs6 quirks.. But engine and boxes.. They hurt! And you could squeeze the named for as many things you can get away with
Just my opinion, good luck!

cheers.
gearbox was replaced july '09 so covered for 2 years until july '11.
just had DRC v3 fitted, so covered until may'12
engine and turbo's not a common failure (as far as i know)
hmmmm, will give it thought over the next few months,
thanks for the advice
