Interior Trim

Post by SteveCuz » Wed Apr 28, 2010 11:16 am

Thinking about a change.

I don't have the carbon fibre but I think it would be a good fit for my car.

Trouble is finding a set.

Also I have heard from some that the fake carbon fibre isn't the best.

The option I am currently thinking about is to get my own parts vinyl wrapped.

Anyone done this and if so any advise or pics of the final results.

Also if someone would be so kind to take some good pics of their oem carbon fibre trim to see what I think.

The choice would be to go for a wrap very similar or maybe something different.

One other choice would be to paint them to try to achieve Piano black but would be a little worried about the final result, plus the wrap could be reversed if required.

thoughts and pics?

Thanks

Steve

What have you got now?

I don't think vinyl wrapping is a good idea. The only way you'll get authentic carbon fiber look is with, well, authentic carbon fiber. Ebay or OEM probably your only choices. Anything else will look tacky IMO.

I agree, however a Piano Black Wrap should work well.

I think someone has had this done but the OEM parts are costly. I had my Alu ones moved to a new door panel after it was damaged and they don't fit as prefectly as from the factory.

I have a full set of carbon trim in mint condition that you can have. Be about £18k I reckon!

Hey, I'll even chuck in a spare car! :D

@p3u - were those seats standard or an option in the US (I'm assume you're US based)? That's the first time I've seen a single DIN on a C5RS too... such a sheltered life I lead.

Those are the US models. Non-recaro seats (but with memory) and no Navi+, though some do retrofit. Other differences are: they have a spare wheel (battery in a box in the boot). And they were all saloons with the 18" wheels standard. They'll also have different emmissions standards, so Kudos to audi for maintaining the same power / torque as the Euro version, as opposed to the US versions of some cars like the M3 which are down on power compared to their Euro cousins.

Sometimes I think I'd prefer the US seats since the recaros are so rubbish at holding you in and not terribly comfortable to boot.

p3u I notice you have switches on your passenger door beside the door opening handle the same as the drivers side, what are these for?

Ahha memory seats! I really miss memory seats and auto wipers/lights like I used to have in my BMW something Audi were really lacking behind with when these were new.

Me too. I never understood why they didn't put them in the RS6. They have them in the B6 S4 which is the same age, so why not the RS6?

Yep, sorry re: highjack. Looking at p3u's piano trim, I think you should go for it Steve, pending any comments he has about wear n tear.

I love the Recaro seats, keeps me snug but I am a fat b4stard... according to the Body Mass Indexamity thingy. Does this mean we can stage a "buckets vs Recaro" debate over here too?

Yay! Heated debate! I ain't small either and I'm always gripping the steering wheel for dear life going round corners. Maybe my leather is particularly slippy. Compared to the Recaros in a Focus ST the RS6 ones seem to be teflon coated with non-existant bolsters.
