You were very lucky then because they did not take it into account with me or my friends, perhaps its because i refused to start crying in court

104 on M27 Sunday Summer Morn at 6am empty road etc (rental car as other car was in shop) about 10 years ago (so different "attitudes" to speeding.. Went to court using a local Solicitor to the court .. I already had 3 points due to a "towing offence" which was boat on trailer in 3rd lane.. Had letter from company saying I needed to drive for the job, would loose the job if I lost license, did the very sorry speech in dock etc . Solicitor argued 6 points and fine was a much better "deterrent for me" as that took to close to 13 and a years ban .. thats what I got 6 points and a huge fine (for me then)... as I say 10 years ago it "worked"

Also I drove like a complete "wrinkly" for 5 years after .. dead on speed limit

I was caught on a bike doing 96mph in a 60 limit - a nice wide, long straight of a new bypass, i hasten to add.
I had to go to court as i knew at that time (2000) that 30mph above the speed limit is an automatic ban.
My employer gave me a letter saying i needed my license to do my job (driving development vehicles), and the court gave me a 300 pounds fine and 6 points.
I had to hire a brief and take a day off work (self employed), and it cost me more to insure my bike and car for the next 5 years - i estimate it cost me around 1500 quid all-in...not good..!!
Best of luck to you.

i am not going to lecture anyone on speeding (he who lives in a glass house and all that...) and not that anyone has lectured, but in my humble experience it matters feck all what you wear, say, do or present in court, it all depends on the beak behind the bench.

I was nobbled at 96mph on the A38 in my old B6 A4 2.4se, my wife was 8.5 months pregnant and appeared to go into labour. I was had by a scamra van. Sumonsed to court in |Devon (at the time I was living in Kent so a real arse ache).

i turned up, in my suit, was very polite and apologetic, I had a letter from my emplyer saying that as I was the national service manager and an indispensible member of the company, I needed my licence.
I explained that my wife had gone into labour and i wa rushing her to the hospital in plymouth as it was the only one i knew. I had a written statement from the mid wife who we phoned, I produced an itemised bill that showed her number and it matched near enough exactly to the offence date/timestamp. I even had my 2 month old daughter with me.......and the verdict.....
"Mr pino- we are not interested in your explantions, we are only interested in upholding the law and punishing them who fall outside of it. Under normal circumstances we would be banning you for 42 days, but as you are not an habitual speeder we are going to levee 9 points and a £500 fine plus £246.00 costs." And I said "Thank you"
My mate has just lost his licence for 30 days 7 a £200 fine for doing 122 in 70 on the A30 hayle bypass, unfortunately it had a 50mph limit on it. It was 0230hrs and the road empty.
He has been banned 3 times, and had 6 points already on his licence.........

Good luck, without being a merchant of doom- you will need it, unless you get a decent beak.......
It's all Bollox.

the only thing ive seen get someone off is a statement from an employer that if you should loose your licence it would mean other innocent people loosing there jobs also, due to the fact your the driver ( i did this for my employee, (rightly so of course) and he is driving with 20 odd points!!!)
but lucky day & lucky draw on the beak!

Hiya the6, not good news! I have some experience form my younger days re speeding, had lots of fast motorbikes, and a bad attitude.......lol..

Anyway, Always helps to have letter from employer, some beaks accrpt it some don't. What a nice suit, letter from the boss, and a good brief will not do you is any harm, and whenever i have been in court, i have always used the 1st 2, and the 3rd if it was very fast. I must emphasis that this was some time ago, and that i'm a good boy now, no really. :rocker:

Anyway, have a look here http://www.pepipoo.com go through the forums, and post and post your details and all about the offence and your circumstances. You will be surprised what they have managed to get people off on the past.

Just remember there are ALWAYS more than one way to skin a cat.

I'd be interested to know how you get on.

WOW, thanks for all the info and tips chaps, I appreciate all of your advice of course, very much so.

I run two of my own small companies, both of which require me to drive everyday to meet, price and tender various building and or scaffolding works. So I guess the best thing to do is explain this to a brief/solicitor and see how it goes on the day.
I will of course let you know the outcome in three months!

Quiet interesting to see that some of you boys have been in similer cirumstances, makes me feel a little better about myself however that said I still feel like an idiot.
I guess the fact I havce never been in trouble before may help my defense but it's amazing really, I have been GATSO'd twice and they were both out of film as I never heard a peep. I guess it was my turn and I hold my hands up. Just dont want a ban, that would be a real spanner in the works.

I remember that you used to be able to get insurance for losing your license. In the event that you lost it, you'd be chauffered around for the duration of your ban. Haven't seen this offered for a while, so I suspect it's been made illegal or wasn't economically viable.

Good luck, the6.

Remember you can omly use an excuse once. So if it's I'll lose my job, or my wife will leave me, you can't use the same excuse twice, as they will record it.
