3 points, 60 quid fine?
With any luck, it may just be a decoy and the cops may have been eating doughnuts!
I hope you didn't get caught :)

If it really was 2 x limit. Not likley to be able to plead guilty by post and only get sanctioned £60 plus 3 points. more likley 3-6 points and fine based upon so called affordability plus of course the new "victim of crime surcharge" of £15.

Speeding/Exceeding the speed limit (SP30)

Offence
Driving on a road exceeding the prescribed speed limit

Maximum penalty
Fine not exceeding Level 3 which is maximum of £1000
Endorsement with 3-6 penalty points
Discretionary disqualification
If you are doing more than 30mph over limit you are very likely to be disqualified depending on speed, road traffic conditions, weather etc.

If you are offered a fixed penalty option, and you are guilty then you are probably best to take this option, as your licence will be endorsed with the minimum number of penalty points and the fine (currently £60) is likely to be less than that imposed by the court. There will also be no court fees.

Possible defences are that you were not speeding, that it was not you driving, or that you were driving an exempted vehicle in an emergency, don't think the RS6 will be exempt!!!

The prosecution may obtain a conviction by producing in evidence photographs taken from speed cameras. There is no requirement that such photos have any other evidence to back them up. If no photo is available then the evidence to convict you must come from at least two different sources, although one of these may be mechanical such as the police car's speedometer/radar gun/VASCAR. Under s20 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act (as amended by s23 of the Road Traffic Act 1991) where a radar device is used the police merely need to provide a record produced by the prescribed device AND (in the same or a separate document) a certificate as to the circumstances in which the record was produced, signed by constable or authorised person.

Its a sliding scale for the penalties based upon percentages. Doing 30mph + anything from 6 -14 mph will give 3 points and fine (less than 50% over the limit). 30mph + 15 - 29mph will normally be 6 points and fine (50 - 99% over speed limit). 30mph + 30mph or more (double the limit and above) will normally result in court appearance and the inevitable poosible ban.

Good luck mate. Im not a fan of cameras (actually hate them) but if your doing 60 in a 30 then you need to have a word with yourself, regardless, and prepare yourself for the consequences. Your were not on a motorway, and a 30 zone is 30 for a good reason - kids, housing, shops etc. Potentially could be much worse. Nuff said!!

60 in a 30 is plain dangerous

my personal opinion is you will be luck to escape a ban

an an area is generally a 30 because there a pedestrians about

I think you will go to court and they wont look kindly to doing twice the speed in a built up area (my assumption based on the limit)

Thinking about it, starting this topic / thread probably wasnt the smartest thing to do either. We all love fast cars here, but there's a time and a place. Maybe, to save your face, this topic should be deleted. Its gonna save you some abuse i think.

Ditch the thread and pray that you weren't caught and got away with it.

I'm sure you're not a serial offender so good luck whatever the outcome.

Based on experience from friends and work colleagues you'll prob escape a ban with a half decent solcitor but get 6+ points and a means tested fine

I accept the outcome is worrying but I wholeheartedly agree with David K. Whilst the government of this country has many faults one thing they say is true - its 30 for a reason !

Saying that I was caught doing 62 in a 30 as a kid. That was before points and back then it was 20 pounds plus £1 per mile over the limit. I went to court and got £50.

My point is that this road was a dual carriageway and it was at 3:00am in the morning with no cars on the road.

I had no idea it was a 30 but it was a massive eye opener for me and taught me a massive lesson. I thought I was gonna lose my licence as I was only a kid.

I still travel this road more weeks and I still have no idea why it is a 30.

All I am saying is not all 30's are beside schools etc.

I was more shocked by previous claims for 150mph corners but no-one said ought to that!

A colleague had this, went to court, magistrate decided on 9 points; then the clerk of court informed them they could not give 9 for that offence, had to be ban or 6 points; so as they had decided not to ban and give points instead they reverted to 6 points.

Come on, I don't think anyone on this forum is justified to throw the first stone - or maybe I'm missing the irony? No-one has qualified the circumstances, time of day or anything! I think we should give the man a break... or should that be a brake.

Failing everything else, claim it was a Toyota & the accelerator pedal was stuck!

Steve- time and a place for everything...... circumstances etc have all been mentioned. Why for instance is the 4 lane A20 into london 50mph?

Why were you shocked at a 150 corner- do you know the road? Do you know what time of the night or day it was? Do you know if the road was busy or empty? Or were you just shocked that an RS6 could go round corners that fast ;)

Lets face it, our speed laws are arcane, I for one am a great believer in a 20mph limit in built up areas around estates and schools- even 10mph, but on a motorway or dual carriage way, where the result of my doing "some miles per hour" in a car that will do nearly 3 times the NSL and go from 150-0 faster than most cars will get to 70, and will have no effect or endanger anyone else except myself, and if I am prepared to accept the consequences of my actions should I be caught, then thats a choice I am happy to make. I have a very strict set of rules that i follow before i get "exhuberant" and the main one is that over a certain MPH there is no other traffic on the road- AT ALL. as soon as i see something, thats it. end of run.

Anyhoo- each to their own.

IF spanner has done 60 outside a school then he's an idiot, but i doubt he is, I also doubt it was outside a school etc- by the very fact that there was a scamra van there, it was very obviuosly one of the sneeky feckin roads where the limit is not very clear and they know they can catch people. If it was an accident blackspot, or outside a school etc it would have a fixed camera.

I think we should give the guy a break, stop condemning him, because honestly- there for the grace of god go all of us- show me the man who says he has never broken a speed limit and i will show you a liar.
It's all Bollox.
