Actually, I do have a question for you as it goes (well, 2 questions..) - how were the GYEF1 Assyms when you first had those fitted? Was there a bedding in period? And another question - did you have a geo done at the same time you had those fitted? Would be interested to hear your answer on these.

Mo,

Yup, had the geo done on the new GY, after some work by Grizz, the car is set up the same. In fact, the geo is doen each time i get new rubber.

the GY came in afetr about 100miles. Feckin lethal if you are daft enough to boot it on them cold and new..... Like i did.... outside the fitters...... But once scrubbed, they would be really sticky after about a mile or so, even just pootleling along.

The TPMS was a good shot, but, they were removed A LONG time ago, running normal valves, well not normal, performance ones that are stronger, more flexable and more expensive!

The balance was spot on. 00 inside and out back and front after a max of 10g was added.

Got it booked into my local "OOOOOAAARRRR" gargae on Monday morning, will get it on the ramp and crawl all over it like a rash. Pull, push twist all the running gear and see what I find.

Been out this morning and given it anohter thrashing- just to see if they are improving, in all honesty, one minute I would be saying "oo maybe they are getting better" then the next " arrrggggh you <beep>, will yo go where I tell you!!"

Its a conundrum .....dunadunadunananananannooooop- pow!

Hi Alex,
Shortly before I sold my car to MartWilliams I did the same, had my wheels refurbed, bare metal strip and refitted with new vredstein, have to say I was less than impressed, to the point I phoned Grizz to ask if he had heard anything? He hadn't my point of reference is a slip road coming off the m60 a long sweeping bend that sweeps back over the motorway and is approx a mile long, always has been a reference point for all my cars, with vreds on, the car was unstable at 80, prior to that stuck to this bend like glue upto 120ish, says it all that my a6 diesel happily chugs through at 100, car felt to me as though there was movement inside the tyre almost like liquid had sloshed inside the tyre (hard to explain really), can't really say if they scrubbed in and became better as I sold the car the following day

I can't say that I've noticed any issues with mine, but then I have no point of reference.

I can't test them either till the spring as I've put the winter tyres on, although they are vreds as well. Best I can do is see how the Wintracs feel when I go out in a bit.

OK lads my rears are down to the indicator blocks and was planning on ordering a set of Vreds this weekend but all this has put a spanner in the works.

So whats the opinion on the best tyres to buy now then, size, price vs performance and none of the rubbing issues?

Need new boots ASAP!

Without a shadow of a doubt the goodyears.
Stick with 255/35/19, blow em up to 40 psi, and you will tear your face off before they let go.

Any reason not to go for 275/30s Mooch?

Ah well,
I genuinely dont see the point. There is more than enough grip from the OEM size so why risk potential rubbing issues, extra load stress on the running gear and then extra stress on you worrying about the extra stress on the running gear?
Don't think they are any cheaper either, the lower profile would worry me a bit too as as an every day car I think that the bastard is a kerbing or a pothole away every minute of every day, and TBH there is enough to worry yourself with without adding to it on the rubber front.
I have seen too many of these worn tyres that "have just happened- they were ok on the last set", at lets say 180mph on a road in Germany how long is that going to take to saw thru your inner wall? I couldn't live with that uncertainty- especially as Mrs Mooch & baby Mooch use the car during the week. (actually baby mooch now 2 1/2 years old, would be calling dady a feckin great big Jessy if she possesd such obscenities in her vocabulary- a complete petrol head & knows the difference between RS4 & 6 and C5 & C6) SOOoooo in a not very short nutshell that is why, maybe i am a bit anal about the rubber, but as I have just found out, my ass doesnt lie, and bad rubber kills, I should have stuck with what I know, and on that front, I CANNOT recommend anything but what I can gaurentee, and that is OEM GYF1 assy's 255/35/19 @40 psi all round.

I always had the goodyear eagle f1's on my previous performance car, 255's on that and I would concur with mooches opinion on those. I wouldn't recommend oversizing the width, you'll risk losing handling performance rather than improving it, the only benefit would be less risk if kerbage

255 GY F1 Assy's it is then, anyone know where to buy these at the best price?

This actually sit's with me better as I rather have better performance than save a couple hundred quid, and my nipper travels in the car as well and totally agree with the Moochster it's just not worth the extra worry.

I'm in Snowy Aberdeen so would need them posted etc to fit up here.
