Connecting an iPhone
Connecting an iPhone
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I thought I would ask again as new devices are always coming on the market.
I have an iPhone and cradle fitted but it is only for charging purposes. I know the phone part can be integrated via bluetooth but I believe I would need to upgrade the RNS-D to RNS-E to accomodate the Bluetooth package?!?!?
Is there a unit/adapter which will permit the iPhone to be wired to the RNS-D (i.e. without using Bluetooth) so that the Phone part will integrate (i.e. voice through speakers etc and run an external mic) and also the iPod capabilities can be controlled from the RNS-D head unit maybe instead of the CD changer which I dont use?

I'm very interested in the answers to this too.
Somebody posted this link http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_info ... Tuner.html for a way to connect the ipod part of your phone to the head unit via the TV tuner part so that you can get music and video to the head unit. I don't know how much control you get with that though, nor if this connector will charge the iphone whilst connected.
I don't think that connector gives any hands free phone functionality though. And you will have to route/buy addiotional cabling through to where ever you keep the iphone in the car.

iphone 3G can now output music via bluetooth, so a Parrot might be the answer. Kill 2 birds with one parrot, ah ah.

I don't think that route will do what you're thinking. All it transmits is the actual sound, think of a BT headset, that's it. No control, sound only. So unless the Parrot can act like a headset, no joy.Shoppinit wrote:iphone 3G can now output music via bluetooth, so a Parrot might be the answer. Kill 2 birds with one parrot, ah ah.

On a quick look I think I'm right in saying it needs an RNS-E unit to integrate to?!?! Also, it uses the TV tuner port so cant have TV AND iPod functionality. But it looks a great piece of kit.
I'm amazed there isnt a simple cable adapter/box which links the two together. Looks like the only way is to replace the RNS-D which seems a very expensive option.

There are simpler ways. You can use the cable that Mart mentioned to add 2 AV inputs to the RNS-D. This is what I have done. you can then use any iphone dock that you want to hook the iphone up. I use a Kensington liquidAux which is pretty basic (and for audio only) but it does what I want it to do. You can adapt a home dock if you want AV.
If you want controls from the RNS-D then I don't think this is possible, though you could modify the steering wheel buttons. I just use the remote that was with the liquidAUX.

Simplest way is to use the Dension Gateway 300 which replaces your CD changer for Ipod connectivity

And a good BT system such as the CK3100.

or you could ditch the whole lot and get a complete unit like this:
