American Cars...Any point???

Post by mattler » Sun Sep 13, 2009 7:23 pm

Was in Thetford forest today and there was a mini American car show (say about 150 cars)
It was quite interesting in comparison as most of them were BIG cars like the RS6, most of them had BIG wheels...Like the 6, most of them had large engines...like the 6.
What became appparent though is that although these things were loud and had massive engines, none of them looked like they could actually change direction if required or STOP????
2 semi realistic performance cars were present, the 300c SRT8 and a Rousche mustang, apart from those it was all show and zero go.
Just wondered if there was actually any point in the general existence of American cars.
I left as the show was breaking up and left the forest area with a few of those God awful hot rod type vehicles behind me revving their V8 mega engines so I started revving mine which I think gave them a bit of a suprize and made them eagre to boot it out onto the main road behind me.
I might as well have raced a push bike as the beating was stupidly convincing.
Anyone else share my thoughts?

Depends. Some of them are cult icons. I'll be having a 66 mustang at some point, even though they are crap. There's something appealing about them that's difficult to put your finger on.

I had a new mustang recently and I was very impressed. Felt like a real car for once. Maybe they're making progress.

I know a guy near me who bought a brand new 5.7 liter GM engine, complete with fuel injection system for £2500. Try doing that with Audi. hehe. You might get a turbo... That engine went in a 60's camaro and I'd hesitate before drag racing it :)

It's just good fun to have & great for frightening people in.

You should be ashamed of yourself Sir!!!
They do look pretty evil though!
When I asked a guy in the states how powerful his Ram was he told me, "It would pull the hinges off the gates to Hell" not the gates you understand but the hinges???

Great bit of Kernowspeak there Cornish....was almost back in Looe myself there. My first wife came from Liskeard. Anyroadup (to use a bit of Derbyshire) I think Yankee cars are like their motor bikes, crap but they do have a certain attraction. Anyone on here ever had a Harley? Rather like riding a horse when it come sto going round corners, your never sure if it's going to make it........cool noise though.

Can anyone here who regularly watched Knight Rider honestly say that at some point they didn't want a Trans Am?
