I drove about 5 miles to a garage, set to 40 psi and stored the TPMS pressures. so i guess, the tyres were probably just warm.

Warranty company authorised replacement TPMS

Post by langstone » Tue Sep 08, 2009 8:41 am

My warranty company has authorised the replacement of a faulty tpms they have also just paid for a faulty parking sensor.

They initially declined but when I rang and complained cause they paid for 1 earlier this year they explained that they needed to know that it was definately a different sensor. Got Newton Abbot Audi to confirm this and they authorised the Job.

Company is Warranty Wise.

Paid around £800.00 for 2 years cover Nov 08.

Well, I told you I would keep you updated :)

I took my car in to my dealer to get my TPMS diagnosed and repaired under warranty. I was told it had been fixed and waited for my car to be valeted. Went out to car, it was dirty. Drove car away, warning light came on. Turned on stereo, a channel I wasn’t listening to blaared out at 100% volume. I was not happy.

Phoned and complained. Said I’d be back in for my (free) MOT so they could look at it again. Asked for wipers to be changed and a courtesy car. I arrived on the day and was told I couldn’t have a courtesy car. Got phoned later in the day – no wipers in stock, and TPMS faulty. Said ‘all component warranty’ and got a call later saying - sorry, £250 to fix. I was fizzing.

So, letter goes in to Audi. I get a call from After-sales manager last Thursday (7pm – I was in the pub!!) and told I’d get a response by Monday. Monday came and went. Ranty email went in yesterday, here’s the response:-

"I do apologise for not getting back to you at the previously agreed time on Monday. I will spare you the details of the events preventing me from keeping the promise.

I have investigated the details of your recent letter and discussed with the relevant team members. As many of your issues are totally unacceptable as well as unexplainable then I can only apologise for the poor experience you had with us

What I would propose to do here is collect the car from you and allow us to further diagnose the problem regarding the batteries, as previously stated the batteries are serviceable items and not included within the cover of the Audi Approved Warranty but I would be looking to resolve this issue looking favorably upon you for the bad service we have given you recently, likewise I would replace the wipers also free of charge.

I hope this goes some way to restoring your faith in us and would be willing to discuss with you on the telephone to offer my sincere apologies should you advise me of a convenient time to call.

I do appreciate your business and wish to continue to improve the relations we have.

Regards"

So, I've emailed back saying losing the car again is a total pain and asking for more - I'll let you know if I can get it

How are the batteries serviceable if the units are sealed?

AFAIK - The units are not serviceable.

But good job anyhow by getting them replaced due to bad service. For thsoe under extended audi warranty we coudl all try this as teh chances of getting good service from a delaer is remote!!!

When I got my new ones I had a good look and I can not see how the batteries are serviceable. The whole circuitry and battery is sealed in resin. Im sure digging it all out would damage the circuit board and then there is the problem of resealing.

Good luck to them I say. I would ask them to show you the batteries which they say are serviceable!!!

I think it's fare to say the battery can't be removed. The unit is assembled & them fully sealed with a rubber coating.

There is no way to remove the circuit board that sits over the battery with out damaging it.
^^^ That's good enough for me. Audi are cheap bar stewards, aren't they?

No special attention. Just make sure they don't break it. You can change the valve cores, no problem. They are standard.
Interesting picture - i see the RFID transmitter is 433MHz which is the same frequency as most the devices in my home automation system. This means if the signal is strong enough when the car is my drive I should be able to examine what the receiver is receiving, log the pressures and detect any variance! The car should be close enough as there's already a sensor under my front seat that's read by the house when the car comes home (or leaves) - check out the front drive at http://217.155.28.94:8080/stat (guest & guest). :-)

:D

Seriously though - do you have a link to the manufacturer's website? I love gadgets like that. :)

there's years of work there with hardware and software from a number of different world wide companies. The whole lot is brought together by software called HomeSeer. It's HomeSeer that provides the web front end and control - http://www.homeseer.com/

This is what I aspire to though! http://www.bwired.nl/ Note his Body Weight Monitor - that's done with a set of scales with the same 433Mhz transmitter as our TPMs :-)

Jeezus there's even a sensor in the Rabbit Hutch !!

I like it !! But.............

I'm still having problems working out how to use the hard disk recorder I bought 12 Months ago !

Usually by the time I've worked out how to fully use anything to do with technology its gone out of date and I have to start all over again re learning the next new bit of kit.

Just to briefly go back on topic again..............

I was at R.K. Engineering in St Agnes Today to get a C.V. Boot replaced and Simon plugged in Vagcom to try and find the problem with My TPMS and he was able to check the life expectancy of each Battery and even the Tyre Temperatures.
All the sensors were down to a few Months life left so I think its time to replace them and if that doesn't fix it at least I can rule out a sensor fault.

Did you notice where he looked to find that info??? It would be very useful to know how long is left in the batteries. Although I have just replaced mine, they could have been sat on a shelf for a fair while!
