New Owner RS6plus

Post by CMJS » Sat Aug 08, 2009 7:28 pm

Hi all

My name is Colin and I have just picked up a RS6plus from the wheel restorers having bought it a week ago and dropped it off to get the wheels restored while on holiday. Some of you wil know the car from this forum. PLus, Black with Congac and some very dodgy coloured wheels hence the imeadiate refurb. Wasnt sure about going with Grey but having now seen them done I am over the moon. Car seems all good although brakes are squeeling a bit when hot and I am getting warm air from the heater in the footwell despite the air con being icy cold up top Any one any ideas ?

Reaction from family and friends has far surpassed other cars purchased in the past (mainly Porsches) and loving the exclusivity already.

Although not yet had the pleasure of meeting Lee or Grizz at Unit 20 they have both been really helpful on the phone and have also been happy to speak to Gerry at WFC Preston where I had the wheels refurbed. Well done and Thanks. This shows one or two of the Porsche independants how to do things instead of the 'book it in and we will see what we find' routine. Needless to say I will be in touch shortly for you to look over the car.

In the meantime I think I need to speak to Mark in Manchester ??( PLease can someone confirm) as I need BT and ideally ipod connecitivy ASAP.

Again if anyone could tell me what I need to know on either of these I would be gratefull.

Off to put some more miles on the new GY F1's to make sure they are nicely broken in !!!

well done on the purchase. get some pictures up. did you buy the car on piston heads ?

I too have the black plus and same issues as you i.e squeeling brakes when hot and hot footwell, so interetsting to see what replies you get.

I wanted cognac but ended up with some other greeny leather that's a pain to prevent showing scratch marks.

They are a great car although in my opinion a car that hides it's feeling of speed very well!

Likewise looking forward to seeing the pictures. Owning an RS6 puts you in an exclusive club, and owning a plus puts you at a different level of exclusivity altogether.

Doubtlss your wallet will feel the pain of weekly fills with V-Power before too long :)

Hi Colin,

Welcome to RS6 ownership and being a part of the "plus" club.
I've got the Audi BT module retro-fitted to my RNS-E and it works really well with my iPhone, but still looking for a decent connection for the iPod/iPhone.
I wish the iPhone cradle could be retro fitted, but I understand is not possible on our cars.

Cheers

Gary

Exhaust soundtrack aside, I am more than happy with the twin MMC cards for MP3 playback.

Although if your music is in AAC format, then I suppose this won't help...

Thanks for the enthusiastic welcome. Re ipod I think I have now ruled this out as have found the MMC cards. After some experimenting I have 20 cds on a 2 gb card - Fantastic. Glad I ripped my CDs in itunes in MP3 not AAC. RE BT I will be following this up on Monday.

Other questions-
1. Hot air in footwell when rest of car icy cold ? Anyone heard of this before ? Seems to be more the faster I travel
2. Squeels from brakes- Normal ?
3. Sat nav disk to enable TMC - Will a 2007 disc work and do I need to upgrade any firmware or is updating the mappnig sofware enough ?
4. Finally dont have a grill badge for some reason. Dealers or Ebay best ?

Photos will follow tomorrow as didnt have time to learn how to do it tonight.

BTW - Not the car suggested above as beleive this was black/black. It was a car owned by 'Gord' and yes, it was on Pistonheads.

If you want to look further into the iPod options, I have a DLO homedock fitted to the TV input via a kufatec adapter which lets me control the iPod via the buttons on the unit. It works with all iPods including the touch, and I think iPhone (installer had one)

Have a search on here for more info.

3. TMC

A 2007 disc will update the firmware and enable TMC.

I think Audi coughed up for the licence from 2006 onwards.

Missing it already! Glad it's gone to a good - local - home. Colin certainly has all the right credentials for being here - but I'll leave that to him to tell you about.
I don't think it ever had a front grille badge even when it was new for some reason. I have photos somewhere so will check.
