CV Joint

Post by stunew » Wed Apr 22, 2009 7:51 am

All,

Can anyone advise me if the RS6 Front Outer CV Joint is the same as any other A6 i.e. 2.8 Quattro, 2.5Tdi etc etc?

Cheers

Driveshafts are unique to the RS6 but the outer joint is the same as most of the others except the really small engined A6's.
Part number is 4D0 498 099 which is the same across the board.
Outright purchase they are £211.18+VAT, exchange (put an "x" on the end of the part number) they are £95.37+VAT

A word or warning guys, when i had my A4 2.8L, the it was a total night mare getting the right CV. Had one the fitted the shaft not the hub, the hub not the shaft, and that fitted neither. No idea what the problem was, but it happened on 2 separate occasions, so i'd imagine that it's quite common.

All,

A bit of success sourcing a cheaper alternative CV Joint, got one from my local motor factor. Made by Shaftec who's stuff I have used before. Came with new boot, grease, bolt and the clips which I must say are as close to the OEM clips as I have seen.

Fitted at the weekend in under half an hour trouble free!

All in all a very good buy and only £29.00 plus vat at trade price!! A fraction of the OEM price and probably manufactured in the same factory!

Shaftec part number CV388A - Listed for a 2002 4.2 Auto A6.

Beware you are not being charged OEM prices for garages fitting these cheaper alternatives!!
