RS6 Brake pads

Post by jamesslater » Wed Apr 15, 2009 10:22 pm

Any advice on replacing RS6 pads? Front pad warning light has just come on. Dealer savs they need 2hrs labour as they "have to bed them in". Cost £346 and he warns I may need discs even though they have done 24k since replacement at huge cost. Mechanic told me at last service 3k ago that the discs were fine. How can I tell if he's right? The dealer always wants to sell up any repair.
Can I replace them with Redstuff pads or must I get Audi to fit theirs. car under Audi warranty but thet doesnt cover pads and discs?
Any advice welcome!

dealers are full of s**t and will tell you anything to rip you off. You can check the discs yourself. I think min might be 31- 32mm but I'm sure someone else will know better.

Have a look at the discs yourself, or get a 2nd opinion, as some of the interpretation of dealers "discs are worn" is frankly quite astonishing!

2 hours labour.... bed them in....... They want shooting with a blunt bullet nade of their own <beep>. They just want to take your car for a spin. Talk to Grizz. For what Audi charged me (before I knew better) for a front set of disks and pads, grizz could do the whole lot and more besides........
It's all Bollox.

You have to PAY some young service guy to drive your car while bedding in the brakes?
Ha Ha. Funniest thing I've heard in a long time.

Now I find the local factor can get Brembo, Ferodo or Girling pads, which for normal road use?
Brembo very expensive, my local garage, performance based trade, says Ferodo are fine.
Any views?
