Someone was talking about using Redline ATF, but would this mix with the remaining fluid since you can never get it all out?

Yeah, think that's what I'd go for also. Would you recommend purging if the ATF coming out looks clean?

You modify the suspension to improve it
You modify the arb's to improve it
You modify the ecu to improve it

Yet you retain a poor mineral based fluid which breaks down very quickly in operation and ignore a vastly superior fluid (no I am not on the payroll) and still claim to have improved it!!!

Shoppinit,

You will never fully replace the fluid in the gearbox as to do so would involve stripping the unit down and also removing the torque convertor.
Do the filter and oil change as mentioned, run the car for a 1000 miles, drop the oil and replace again.
That is most effective way we have found to improve the gearbox, not the cheapest option.

A very good link. Pretty much the same tranny. ZF

Basically a slightly different version of our ZF tranny. Our pan is easier to remove than the one in the pic but the pan itself is the same, as well as the magnets in the pan.

That's what I thought. Hence my question about the redline ATF mixing with the OE stuff...

I also use Redline. I flushed mine.

I think you can mix Redline no problem according to Redline. It is better than the Semi-sythetic factory fluid. There may be a slight amount left in the TQ converter after a flush. I flushed mine twice in about 10K miles so it is definitely all clean and all Redline. It seemed to shift a little better afterwards but I'm sure even new factory fluid would have been slightly better than 40K used ATF in an RS6 which is definitely hard on the tranny and therefore the fluid.

Quite an interesting discussion on it here:
