The "Convenience Control Unit" is unconveniently located in the passenger footwell under the carpet, so with a leak its common to affect central locking, lighting, windows etc. I agree with the posts above, is normally the pollen filter housing not sealed correctly, particularly if the filter has been replaced when serviced is by no means a coincidence.

Thanks Guys
Last I heard they could not replicate the leak , havent dismantled and reassembled everything ,, as i remarked , this just points more at a mistake during the service
Inow have an additional concern as they have been using a dehumidifier in the car , and i dont know what this will do to the leather ie premature drying , so whether that warrants retreating the leather or not ???
Ijust want my beast back , an A3 2.0 tdi just doesnt do the job !

a bit of liquid leather on a warm day would soon sort that out

Good luck!

Hi,
I have a 2003 avant and had the very same problem.
I found in the end that the rubber grommet that seals the bonnet release cable when entering through the bulk head on the drivers side had slipped through and after heavy rain it would pool in the engine bay ledge under the windscreen and come through. What confused me for some time before I found this was that there appeared to be no sign of water other than a large pool in the rear foot well.
Getting the grommet back in place was a bitch, but with persitance got it back in place and NO MORE WATER!
Worth a look at any rate.

Good luck.
Neil.

thanks neil
Audi seem to have sorted the leak out, basically by taking everything apart and putting it all back together properly , scuttle plate , pollen filter housing etc
trouble is , after a month they have still failed to dry out the carpet
Frustrated doesnt even come close to how I feel ,

2002 Audi A6 Avant, water in the front and rear passenger footwells. As per previous messages, checked drains under servo and battery, all ok, seal deteriated on pollen filter so have sealed up, but problem persists. Trying to find the evaporator/condenser drain pipe now, plus any other drains I don't know about. Have found a quarter inch plastic pipe exiting from drivers side lower wheel arch area which is then 'p' clipped to the floor area for another 4 inches or so. Part no. 4B0 201 994 B. Could this be the drain pipe I'm looking for? Alas it appears to be clear, but cannot find it on ETKA to confirm. Only found out about this problem as I was running the wires whilst installing headrest DVD's. Would like to totally remove carpet to properly clean and dry, but this seems no quick job either. I have most of it free, apart from a section going under the footwell vent, just by the airbag ECU. Any pointers anyone?

Mike.

i left the window open on my last car and the floor was in 2 inch of water, mind you it was left over the week end.but it was easy to dry it out i just stuck a Portable dehumidifier in the car and hey presto 2 days later it was dryer than a nuns cruch :D .they are cheap to hire and dont forget to empty the container every time it fills up(unlike me) maybe it would have took half the time to dry out if someone had told me about emptying it

The builders who did the repairs at work put a cracked bucket under the dehumidifier... needless to say it did even more water damage.

Damm, was carrying something in the passenger footwell today and when I picked it out it was drenched.

I rarely even look in the back but I think this is fresh.

The mat was soaking.

So I need to try to look at this before it does any damage.

Heading across to Grizz next week so hopefully I can get this sorted.

My wife has the A6 4.2 avant sport (RS body) and she has just had the same problem.

Half an hour in the local garage and job done (they had just done another audi). They just unblocked the windscreen drainage and cleared it out. They also replaced the air filter which was saturated and filthy. Apparently, it is a commnon problem on audis....the bill was next to nothing.

Hi,
I had exactly the same a few years ago and it was the rubber gromitt that seals the bonnet pull cable, where it goes through the bulkhead. Mine had pulled through and was mainly just making the o/r footwell soaked, it must be the lowest point.
Not sure if you have covered this, but once I popped it back in place.. problem sorted.
