Hello and Warranty Advice please
Hello and Warranty Advice please
Hello all, having used this forum as a very useful source of knowledge (thanks to everyone) to help me understand all the issues with owning an RS6 I now finally getting close to buying one and would appreciate some help on the much covered issue of warranty.
I realise it has been well covered in recent threads but the car I am looking at is already covered by warranty - the Inchcape backed after-market warranty (bought from an Inchcape Audi dealer by the current owner). Looking at the recent threads no-one seems to mention this Inchcape warranty option (it is different to the full Audi warranty which is currently backed by Mondial and cost c.£1700/year). The price is c.£800 for three years (in total) and seems to cover all the major components with the work getting done at an Audi dealer (preferably an Inchcape one). The only added cost is that you have to have a MPC at the dealer before they will sell you the warranty (an extra £100/200).
I was wondering why this warranty option is not seen as a more popular choice - it certainly seems cheaper than most - with named parts cover etc. Am I missing something here - has anyone had experience with this Inchcape warranty?
Sorry for the convoluted post but I don't want to buy a car with this warranty if there is a well-known issue/problem with it.
Thanks.

RE: Hello and Warranty Advice please
I have no experience with the Inchcape warranty but have plenty of experience with Audi dealerships..........
The problem with any warranty which makes you use Audi dealers to do the work is that they are a bunch of robbing B@stards.
In my opinion the best warranty will allow YOU to choose who does the work and whose parts YOU wany to use to replace the Genuine Audi parts with when they fail.
This will allow you (for example) to replace the failed DRC with a decent set of coilovers which will result in less wasted time running back and forth to Audi dealers who really dont know one end of an RS6 from their ar$ehole.
It will also let You take the car to a specialist like Grizz (whose excellent reputation is well know on these forums) for the work doing where they will treat You like a valued customer who deserves their time rather than as Audi dealers seem to do like you are something they are trying to wipe off their shoe !!
I have a warranty with Warranty Direct (£800.00 per Year) who (so far only had the one claim) have been excellent.
I Recently had the car at Unit 20 for a check over ont he DRC and He found it needed Two shocks and a valve they sent out an engineer the same day who authorised the claim the next day.
Later discovered one intercooler was leaking which they also authorised and they didn't even send an engineer out to check.
I discussed with them before I took out the policy that if the DRC failed I would rather replace it with coilovers (and got this confirmed in writing)
I had to pay an extra £250 towards the coilovers out of my own pocket and the total cost to them was the best part of £1600.00 and had a cheque from them within 10 days.
I know this is my personal experience and others here have not had such a smooth ride with this company so time will tell if it was a lucky strike or not but I now have a car which rides like it should have done from new and for a total of just over £1000 (warranty £800 plus my contribution for shocks £250) and I still have 8 months of warranty left !
So in short unless the car has had the DRC replaced already dont look at any warranty which only uses Audi stealers for the labour or Audi parts as replacements or get the dealer to knock off £1500 so you can replace the DRC with a set of coilovers and save yourself all the hassle of the many trips you will probably have to make when the DRC fails again and again and again.............
Rant over !!

RE: Hello and Warranty Advice please
Thanks for the feedback guys. The car I am looking at is a private purchase and already has the Inchcape warranty, so I am (effectively) paying for the warranty in the asking price and I just wanted to make sure that I was not missing something given how relatively cheap the Inchcape warranty is compared to Warranty Direct etc. (aside from forcing you to use Audi dealers for any work). Cheers.

RE: Hello and Warranty Advice please
How does the Inchcape warranty compare with an Audi underwritten named component warranty, which was provided with the car when purchased from a dealer 6 months ago? I checked with Audi warranty and they confirmed that this was underwritten by Audi.......
Re: RE: Hello and Warranty Advice please
I have not seen the full detail on what the Inchcape warranty covers but was told on the phone it covers all major components inc. suspension, gearbox etc. I am not sure how it differes from the Audi (under written by Mondial) warranty (that costs £1700/year) except that the Inchcape warranty is not backed by Audi only Inchcape Audi dealers (and does not have Audi roadside assistance). However I am confused by the disparity in pricing which is why I wanted to check peoples experience with Inchcape.Golffather wrote:How does the Inchcape warranty compare with an Audi underwritten named component warranty, which was provided with the car when purchased from a dealer 6 months ago? My Car Care Plan warranty through Listers is up next month and I've started to do my research and collect quotes. I was sure the last time I asked my dealer he quoted my around £1600 which I guess is validated by Alex's Mondial quote above of £1700. The quote I got to day knocked me off my feet - £2.739 minimum!! And I've have to pay a £100 inspection fee before they could confirm that - it could be higher! That's that off my list...
Re: RE: Re: RE: Hello and Warranty Advice please
I phoned two Audi dealers and they both gave me exactly the same quote for the Audi (Mondial) warranty - £1732 (car over 5 yars old, less than 15k miles p.a.) - so surprised you got a wildly different quote.MalcolmSu wrote:My Car Care Plan warranty through Listers is up next month and I've started to do my research and collect quotes. I would advise you to check whether the Inchcape warranty is the A or B plan. I bought my car from an Audi dealer and extended the warranty for a further 2 years with the Inchcape Car Care Plan. Foolishly I assumed they would sell me a suitable warranty for an RS6 but only much later when I had a claim did I discover I had the B warranty which in my opinion is not worth the paper it is written on and doesn't cover such fundamentals as the DRC...

If you don't have an existing Audi warranty you have to get Audi to inspect the car first (2 hours + any required work) then pay the £2,700ish for the first year (at 5 years IIRC), reducing to £1750 per year for subsequent years (£1250 for les than 5 years). That's what I was told by the Basingstoke Audi Service Manager when I asked him to check with the warranty company.
If you already have an existing Audi warrany it can be renewed for £1750/1250 depending on both year and mileage.

If you buy a car from Audi, then the first year warranty is underwritten by Audi, after that period, it goes to the warranty Co. Or if the car goes over 70k miles. anyhoo thats what I was told by Inchcape/carcare plan. Audi did my box @8 monhts, and when I called Carcare plan/inchcape To whinge about the DRC going again after 2 months, they had no knowledge of GB failure/replacement or all the DRC failures. Result, Grizz and my warranty work. Intercoolers/DRC, never a quible with CCP.
