Does anyone know where I can get an RS6 Gearbox recognition switch urgently ?
Local Audi dealer has advised that they have put an order in which takes three days to be advised how long it will take but it is a back order item, so going to be considerably longer and I am due to go away with the car in a week !
Also is it an engine out job to repalce the switch ?
Gearbox recognition switch
RE: Gearbox recognition switch
do you mean the f125 switch? if so, it can be replaced in-situ
RE: Gearbox recognition switch
What does this switch do exactly? My car has starting problems in that the engine simply won't turn over. It was believed to be a starter motor fault. The starter motor was replaced but after having the car back for less than 48 hours I'm back to square one. I went out on a short journey and when I went to re-start the engine wouldn't turn over again. I'm beginning to think that maybe the gearbox doesn't realize that it's in park hence the non-starting. Could this switch be the cause, is it a common problem? Any advise much appreciated.
RE: Gearbox recognition switch
i strongly suggest a visit to a reputable dealer/mechanic with the ability to read error codes. any fault with the f125 (the "multirange switch - basically the switch mounted on the gearbox which controls the gear selection) should log a fault code - even an intermittent one. basically though an error as major as you report would display in the drivers information system with all the gears highlighted. in other words, if you can see "p" selected, it is probably ok - but it would still pay to check the codes.
another way of saying the above is a non-start is a major fault and i would expect a fault code to be thrown unless the cause is a simple electrical one (no solenoid voltage etc).
hth, and keep us informed - there are a bunch of guys on this list who have a fair bit of experience in these things.
