568bhp - MTM stage4. New owner (longish)

Post by skyegtb » Mon Sep 08, 2008 5:58 pm

Hello! I see that my new car has had a number of mentions on this board over the past couple of years, both when its original, then its last owner were selling it! By the way, excellent board, lots of brilliant info and advice! I now finally know where the button to disable the motion sensors for the alarm are, how to enable the menu button (knob) on the centre console, and just exactly what my solar sunroof does, along with a whole host of other stuff. Actually, (as someone with too much time on thier hands) I have scanned all 40 active pages of the forum over the past 2 days and was most amused to see this car was mentioned at least 3 or 4 times!
Anyway, just a little note to say that this car is awesome. My only experience of Audis before were old Audi 80's and 100's, and more recently A4 quattros (a few were remapped), however the RS6 is certainly a different experience altogether :-) I see why the word 'beast' is used now!!
As for the car, it is in near immaculate condition inside and out. It had a 40,000 mile service before I purchased it including timing belt, however there was one unmatching rear tyre (just ordered 2 Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics to sort that out) and the front pads / discs need replacing soon - however there is still probably 6 months life left in the front brakes before they would definitely need replacing. Otherwise mechanically the car is totally spot on - the gearbox seems to be spot on, it certainly reacts very smoothly and quickly, and with the car having a very recent set of KW v3 coliovers is also a bonus.
Well, that's the introduction over, just letting you know that I am the new owner of this car now and was taking this as an opportunity to introduce myself as well.
I will probably be on here quite a lot as I am sure there will be plenty questions I have over the coming months.
Here's a couple of pics:

Welcome, and what's your opinion on the effect of a stage 4 on the gearbox? Do you know if the torque is somehow managed as to not be too much for the box?

Oh, and is it nippy?
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

Hi bobjebb! Well, I believe the car has covered over 15,000 miles since the stage 4 and like I mentioned the box seems spot on. I have read a few things about what MTM do to help preserve the gearbox with their gearbox ECU remap, but don't know the exact details for this specific car. I am hoping the guy who did the tuning, Kim Collins at QST may be able to shed some light, otherwise I will go to MTM direct to get the details.
All I can say is that i hope the gearbox remains as good as it is!
Nippy? That's one way to describe it, I, nor anyone I have taken out in it has felt acceleration quite like it. I am not wanting to push it until I get the new tyres on the rear, (the unmatching one is of the wrong load index aswell as being a crappy brand) but once that is done and when I get a better feel for the handling etc I will be able to properly test it out and push it a little more each time.

Nope, just a good old wash and polish when I got her home. Bit of a clean freak when it comes to cars and black cars are probably the worst colour for looking constantly filthy. It's not my first black car so I am well versed in car cleaning!

Awesome car. Was thinking long and hard about buying this one but the extra power upgrades scared me into thinking it might go wrong at some point. Let us know how you get on!

Yes, I guess I was a little sceptical but the 1 hour test drive I had before purchase put my mind at rest. I guess the gearbox worry is always going to be there, but it seems to affect just as many totally standard cars as tuned ones (judging by this forum). At least this car has a relatively new box in it so fingers crossed :-)
I will probably be posting on here regularly sharing my problems and hopefully a few good RS6 tales as well.
Cheers, Angus

Angus,

Get your car down to a drag strip so that Matty will have to change the signature at the bottom of his posts!!

Ha Ha! Yes, it's on the cards, as is a track day some time in the not too distant future. I guess this car must be up there with the best of them, the original owner spent over £25,000 on the upgrades!!! Some dude! :-)

As for track days, what brakes does the car have and when was the brake fluid last changed? I would also get some Hotchkiss ARBs fitted.

Hi Grant, the brakes are as follows (pretty amazing setup actually):
Front Mov'it 6 Pot brake kit with 396mm x 36mm discs.
Rear Mov'it 4 Pot brake kit with 342mm x 28mm discs.
According to the reciepts the brake fluid was replaced 10,000 miles (2 years) ago, so I will be changing it very soon myself.
As mentioned above the front discs and pads do not have a lot of life left in them, so they will need replaced before any serious driving takes place. As for ARB's, I guess they are standard on the car at the moment, but will be checking that out soon. What characteristics do these Hotchkiss ARB's have, and are they an adjustable type? I fitted Whiteline adjustables to my last car (Subaru Legacy twin turbo) and it helped out massively by removing the cars understeer.

From when MRC installed the ARBs I was given the choice of 3 settings on the rears... firmest of course. ;-) They help keep body roll down at the limits, and sharpen up the cornering nicely - much less underersteery IMHO.

It doesn't really matter what we do they are still nearly 1900kgs and are very hard on the brakes and tyres round the track. Shame I don't have a vid of my brakes smoking after my first track session. ;) As you say, you will need the fluid change before tracking it.
