avant or saloon????

Post by TheMachine » Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:57 pm

HI could someone tell me why the saloons are cheaper and is it right they have a 4.5 o-60 against the 4.8 seconds on the avant, are there any benefits to having a saloon over the avant, any suggestions would be greatly received thanks.

I think it is down to which one you prefer. For me its the advant. I think it has more of a ' gangster ' look to it and is more original to the rs range. Plus its easier to get a body in the back! I do like the saloon to . I almost brought one but in the end put it down to vote between friends of which one to buy. As for price i think you will find they are about the same for a good low mileage car.

That and the fact that I bought my RS6 when 29, having just sold a two-seater car. Move to an RS6 saloon was way big enough, Avant was a step too far. Am tempted by RS4 Avant though at present, bizarrely am concerned that it will be too-small... how times change eh!

I think the avant is nice but an estate is a little un cool and over the top size wise for a big boys toy.

over the top size wise
 they are almost exactly the same size. L x W x H in mm.
Avant 4852 x 1850 x 1429
Saloon 4858 x 1850 x 1425

Avant is 40kg heavier (1840 vs 1880kg)

0-60mph 4.7s (as per original Audi Tech info) for both.
0-100kmh (62mph) 4.9s for both.

RS6 Plus: roughly 20Kg heavier than the 2002 Avant, and the figures I've seen say the performance is 0.1/0.2s difference, although I don't have factory specs.

we already had an avant (allroad) so it was saloon all the way for me. however, to my eyes, the saloon is better looking - the avant doesn't look different enough....

I posed this question a while back - you might want to refer back to the views from then, here : http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=58184

Also ran a poll which came out 2/3 in favour of the avant.

At the end of the day, it's all down to personal preference.

Avant all the way for me, 5 up plus dogs in the back and still runs the ass of a Porker, all black and mean with full Milltek. Turns heads and scares fellow motorists. Amazing what you can do in the back as well!

0.1 second on the 0-60 is irrelevant.
Ebony Black Avant with Black Optics, Silver Leather and Piano Black/ Full Milltek - 100 CPSI cats and non-resonated! TVR for the summer..... and SL55 AMG just for the pose!!
