New RS6 Plus

Post by L14MDP » Sun Nov 25, 2007 5:26 pm

Just put a deposit down on a RS6 plus. :D

Had a Nogy S3 which I am part exchanging but needed a bigger car for a growing family.

Just wandered if you guys think the price is right?

Link to car is http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/ca ... 4297969468

It has done just over 40K and had cam belt changed at last service. It is due a service and this is being done before I get the car at an Audi dealer.

I'm not sure if there is any warrenty, just waiting on a response. If not is it worth getting one.

Also is there anything I should look out for?

Did they all come with screen in rear head rests and 6 DISK DVD player?

Sorry for so many Questions

Thanks

if you buy the car from audi, you should get a 12 month warranty
as far as i am aware , the screens were not an audi item , probably aftermarket
good luck

if it is going to audi , ask for a full pre-warranty check by audi , and then, presuming it passes , see how much audi want for a warranty.
decision is up to you then , most people wouldnt consider buying without an audi warranty , or at least a trusted aftermarket warranty , though a few do risk it when they see how much the audi warranty is !!
phil , having re-read your post and looked at advert !

I didn't bother with warranty. 2 things can go wrong:

DRC - this will go wrong sooner or later and with a warranty you can expect to have the car off the road for anything up to 3 out of 12 months while Audi try to effect a bodged fix on the cheap rather than fix it properly which costs money

Gearbox may go - a few have but not very many in the great scheme of things as far as I can tell.

A warranty is something like £1,800 for 12 months during which you'll be without your car for weeks, driving a car that doesn't handle right and be left with one that needs another warranty next year to continue the cycle if (when) the DRC plays up. Replacing the DRC with KW or Bilstein will cost similar to the warranty only it will be fixed once and for all so you can enjoy the car.

Replacing the gearbox costs about £2,500 - on balance I'm willing to play the odds that I won't need to do that.

I don't consider a warranty claim to "fix" DRC is worth a penny as it will just fail again in a few weeks and ultimately the warranty will expire leaving you with the problem so unless you need a gearbox you'll struggle to get £1,800 worth out of it even if you have little stuff go wrong.

Replacing the box costs alot more than £2500 at dealer prices. IIRC when mine went the cost was around £10K in total & close to 100 hours labour, which at dealer rates is alot of pennies. Worth noting i'm sure the costs increase if it's warranty, but i'd still expect it to be ALOT more than £2500.

I don't doubt it, but why would anyone pay dealer prices with their own money? Warranty claims are just like insurance claims - inflated.

100 hours , 8-10 hours max to get it out , 4-5 to fit the box & 10 hours to refit the engne & box . can't see it adding up to 100 hours.

Welcome to the silly grin club! :D

Nice looking car there, and definately the best colour.

I saw the vehicle a few months ago at Camberely Audi, and there was me thinking you don't see many black +'s. :o

It certainly looked in very good condition, hopeyou enjoy the drive home once you've picked her up.

My case was a little more complicated, as the dealer had to liaise with Sportec directly for the re-connecting of the Sportec Intercoolers, Engine Oil Cooler & Gearbox Oil Cooler, as their workshop manual did not include my aftermarket modifications.

Perhaps they included education time from Sportec for my work :D

warranty isnt 1800, I paid 1200 for a further years audi warranty... considering the level of breakdown cover included its effectively like paying a grand for the warranty. was 10 hours labour to gain access/replace and reinstate to change the thermostat recently, even at a non-audi dealer that would cost a fair amount, I reckon its pretty good value considering its the same cost warranty as an S4, A6, A8 etc. as its graded by engine size, IIRC 3.2L+ is £1200. bargain for rs6 in my experience.

The Audi price depends on age and mileage IIRC.

I don't have an Audi warranty, this was due to the fact that I was quoted £235 for the inspection prior to warranty, and £2700 for the year's warranty itself.

You can get a decent 3rd part warranty for £500 to cover the major bits, which still leaves £2,200 a year left over for other work or other bits for the car (or next RS of course). ;-)

I re-extended my warranty for £1200..well worth the money
Not only you know most repairs are paid for but if the mrs and kids are in the car I know the Assistance will be there and deal with her quickly and get her on the road with another car

My water pump went last year and warranty paid for that inc Cambelt and the rollers too

After market warranties in some cases are not worth the paper they are written on

Anyway Nice car and enjoy the right hand pedal :-)

Sorry Si, renewal for an existing Audi warranty is £1200ish. The figures I quoted was to take an Audi warranty out on a car that didn't already have one (bought from 3rd party).
