Best ever tank mileage (for me)

Post by Rupert » Fri Sep 07, 2007 10:39 pm

Filled up, drove 420 miles in a morning, on one tank! :o
25.7MPG (Yes, that leaves about 5 litres left in the tank, with the computer showing 10 miles remaining).

Image

Best economy was at 70MPH cruise on a 60 mile straight which resulted in OVER 28MPG average. 8)

What's your best tank mileage?

Hi Rupert

Reminds me of the time I drove back from Germany (other side of Frankfurt) to Calais on one tank of fuel in the S6 (didn't change gear for 400+ miles).

Much better than my best - where were you?

Richard

If you use the cruise control and sometimes manually upshift then the Rs6 is really economical - I think it is a very efficient engine. Of course in Sport mode then you can soon drink some fuel but in steady state cruising it is great. For 450 hp and 4wd it is really very good

Hmm - I use cruise most of the time when I'm actually travelling and I usually get just over 300 miles. I figure at 85-90 mph (by GPS rather than speedo) it must be on boost which makes it anything but economical.

You need to keep revs under 3000 rpm to get best fuel consumption ...... as I am told thats when the boost realy gets going.

Worst is 4 laps of the Nordschleife which equates to around 48 miles in total :o

Phil was getting about the same last week.

Hmm - I usually set the cruise for about that and I get terrible mpg - that's by GPS though so I guess the speedo is showing a little higher. Maybe I should slow down. Nah, don't think so.

best ever tank mileage

Post by langstone » Sat Sep 15, 2007 1:29 pm

I suppose that theoretically the maxium economy should be at peak torque, lowest revs in highest gear without labouring the engine.

So around 1950rpm in 5th whatever that works out to be.

Regards

Mark
