with the sort of torque that an RS6 box has to cope with i would say that its prob more than a manual trans..
unless your going for hard launches all the time the manual box should cope ok..you mite need to also look at the diff ratio to see if its compatible with the man gear ratio..

well the standard tiptronic is marginal in the RS6 with standard torque 560nm. I will not be doing rev-limiter lauches unless at the 1/4mile and even then wont be abusing it.

I would like the read diff ratio to allow a top speed of around ~280km/h as I am not after V-Max just a quick car that i can drive on the street, 1/4mile and track days aswell.

Does anyone know wat the standard RS6 engine internals and camshafts are good for with turbos capable of 700hp?

I think the gearbox swap will only save you 50kg max, or do you have other weight saving mods in mind ?

DavidT - Yes I have other weight modifications in mind, suc as Replacing font seats with lighter alternatives (maybe B7 RS4 if they weigh less) and anything else we can find while stripping the car.

Cheers,

Yes, seats, wheels and body panels are the most obvious I reckon, you have a big target there though. Best of luck and please keep us informed.

s4woody - the part numbers i quoted were for just the case. as noted the only v8 6-sp manual was offered in the s6 prior to 5/2001. the other a6 v8's were all auto.

the s6 flywheel is 077105269l and is shared with the s8.

I know dialynx used a b5 rs4 g box , they removed all the ecu's and fitted motec .

42TT, i've been looking at a manual conversion as well , i hope to have a b7 rs4 gear box clutch & fly wheel soon. You will have to get some one to remap you ecu to remove the gbox as the gbox ecu works with the main ecu .
I hope to have a a6 pedal box as well

So Dialynx and MTM use the same gearbox - that's suggesting to me there is some reason to go for that one.

Grizz - Thanks for your info. I have a tuner that i can use but i like the idea of ditching the ecu (tcu will go with the auto) for a Motec say M800.

It appears from what i have read that the RS4 B5/B7 gearbox's are very similar as far as if they are strong enought only time and torque will tell

sorry to bring this back to life, but i happened to see the rs6 clubsport in question when i took my car in yesterday. it now lives in the desert!! spoke to the technical director about upgrades in general (mostly over how "italian" my car would become following the various stages of upgrade) he claims that the gearbox in the clubsport goes "regularly" bearing in mind the car only has 23km on the clock and you are talking a lot more power torque, i can't see how it won't give you the same amount of trouble.

p.s. for "italian" read temperamental

here is the car (although this video was probably not shot in dubai)
