Manual Conversion

Post by 42tt » Sat Aug 25, 2007 4:38 pm

Looking into this and I read somewhere that the block needs changing but not sure why, I assume the bolt pattern for the 5AT and 6MT are the same?

Also does anyone know if the RS6 block is the same as the normal A6/S6 C5 4.2 V8? I would want to have the bottom end built before I pull my car off the road and then i will have the heads done to minimise downtime.

If this can be done (anything is possible ;)) I will also be upgrading the turbos, fuel system, cams and conrods in the aim of making 600-650hp and as much torque as possible.

Also out of interested does anyone know how much the S6 V8 6MT weighs compared to the 5AT of the RS6?

Cheers,

the block should be the same..the only diff is that you mite have to use a plate to mate your manuel gearbox to the bell housing holes on the block..
slightly diff vehicle but i know ford transits do this when using diff engines but keeping the same gearbox..
i think its called an adaptor plate..

Hmmm, that was always an option but I would prefer using a block or gearbox that will bolt up without the need for an adapter plate.

I can't see the RS6 using special block compared to the S6 V8 4.2 6MT surely?

well ive looked at the manuel trans and the auto trans and the bell housings do look very simular..so really its just down to fitting an S6 flywheel/clutch and gearbox..then a pedal box for the clutch pedal..

S4Woody - That sounds promising. I will need to work out what clutch will be needed as the RS6 weighs a far bit.

The gearbox should also weight alot less than the ZF 5AT as it weighs a bloddy tone to say the least!!!!.

Hope to be able to shed 300-400kg which should help things alot aswell

Appreciate your input.

I'd love to do this to mine, so I'd be very interested to hear how you go. The MTM RS6 Clubsport used an RS4 'box so I assumed the choice of manual would be the easy bit...

the rs6 block (077 103 011 AT) is the same as that in the a8/s8, not the a6 v8. the absence of the part number reference is a puzzle, and could be a mistake in etka. however, the fact remains that the only petrol v8 w/6 speeds audi made were the "avp" and "aqh" - i.e. the s8.

on the other hand the flywheel looks like it will locate correctly as the auto has 2 compensation washers to position it with respect to the starter ring.

s4woody - 01e301103 is nla, replaced by 01e301103k. most of the engine codes you mention are not v8's... (edu, is v6tt - dqt, ftg & fzy are a4's). ekm is a diesel and not that part number either.

eey is the 6sp for the 2001 s6 - however part # is 01e301103t .

the 01e is the standard (old) 6-speed. debuted in the s2. it was replaced by the getrag 6-speed box for the later cars from the b6 v8...

s4woody - Would it be safe to assume that the C5 S6 4.2 V8 manual transmission would have the highest torque rating?
