afew challemges for my dealer

Post by jonathanb » Sun Aug 19, 2007 6:01 pm

I have just returned from a fantastic holiday in the South of France in the RS6 and I have to say with the AMD chip upgrade it was ballistic. I love the way the french send out the rumour that they are hard on speeders and then let you cruise at 220kmh all day on superb roads. Even if there is a speed camera they tell you in plenty of time. Now to my dealer challenges:

1) The temperature was around 33 degrees and this seems to have killed my rear parking sensor which is mostly screming even when there is nothing behind- anyone had a similar experience

2) My gearbox has become very clonky on kickdown is this serious

3) The power steering is groaning on lock when I move slowly (this is intermittent) again is this serious

4) One key fob has stopped working even though it has a new battery

Finally had my windows tinted by old school windscreens in chertsey before going on hols- great service and not too expensive I would recommend them if anyone is interested

Thanks in advance

I hope is has not. I think it was actualy a bit clonky before it was done and it has only done about 8000 fairly gentle miles since the upgrade. Still will wait and see what the dealer has to say

That's who i used a few months ago for my '6.

They did a great job, couldn't fault a thing, not even the price.

Hope you haven't got a box problem and if you have you have cover.

Audi (from US tech docs) have a lovely stock letter that they send out if they think a chip caused the failure (whatever that failure might be) when a car is under their warranty. I guess you can figure out what it says! ;-)

If it was clonky before the chipping, chipping it will just make it worse especially if pushed. :-( Have you run a fault scan (VAG-COM) or similar?

ive had a "clunky" downshift from 3rd to 2nd for quite a while. I have since upgraded the transmission cooler and at the same time did a complete flush (12qts) and used the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF I still have the "clunky" 3rd to 2nd but not as bad (70% improvement) but the more the car is driven the less noticeable it is becoming so I would recommend a fluid level check or flush (not change as this wont change all the fluid) and a new filter

I have also just had my car chipped (transmission aswell) and it doesnt seem to have made it worse in anyway and I drive my car hard.

Glad it was just the fluid that needed replacing 42tt. "Lifetime" fluid indeed!

Mine went clunk twice before the internal clutch(es) started to slip and gears wouldn't engage. But then they were very hard and shook the car (more like a bang), not like a delayed downshift thump 1st/2nd on a junction that the old 2.7T did before chipping. :-) And mine's stock.

What I was saying is that if you have a faulty gearbox, increasing the power going through it is far more likely to make it break, it was obvious really and I'm not meaning to scare-monger.

I would just get it checked, tis all.

GardinerG - I agree and i must say i cant believe the difference the re-tune has made to the car it has transformed it from a quick car to a bloddy rocket ship after 3000rpm until redline in all gears especially 4th gear. I was acutally turned off chipping it after the GIAC trial as it didnt perform as promised but this program is the BOM!!!

Chipping (520 I think) + Milltek is on my list to do. Just not sure if the Warranty company will pay up for a new 'box next time!

Adam took us out in his chipped (pre accident), makes such a difference!

P.s. Sorry for the hijack. I'll get my coat!

For the parking sensor - it could be dirt on a sensor. I had the same problem with bird sh!t on the back for a few miles.

re the power steering, you should probably avoid using full lock... I think these power steering systems are not very clever and if you leave it on full lock then the pump gets a bit strained... I always try to stop a bit short fo full lock for that reason. Anyone with greater knowledge please correct me if I'm wrong.
