Viewing RS6 Avant tonight

Post by PatrickL » Tue Aug 07, 2007 9:02 am

Morning. I am viewing a car tonight and would be grateful for any tips from those in the know. A good mate of mine and RS6 owner has suggest I post on this forum.

It’s a 2003 car and has done 56k miles- is a big service due at 60k and what might I be looking at ball park? It had a cambelt change last month. One of the things really attracting me to the car is that it has an Audi Warranty till March next year. The car is priced at £27,750 with an independent dealer.

Thanks in advance.

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Having recently bought my RS6 heres the list that I made and referred to when searching......

19" Wheels check for curbing
3 spoke steering wheel (not 4 spoke)
Number of previous owners
Interior colour \ Inlay finish (carbon / silver etc)
Check wear on brake discs and pads and Tyres
When last serviced - check history FASH
Tax / MOT
Warranty
Check extras - Electric folding mirrors \ sunroof \ tinted glass etc

I also called Audi customer services 0800 699888 and gave them the Reg number of ones I was looking at and they were really helpful and told me the history and what claims had been made under warranty......

The service intervals are evey 10K and it goes big service(£600), then smallservice (£300), the cam belt should be changed every 40k miles at a cost of around £1000.

I would expect this car to be expecting a big service (and possibly front brake discs and pads at £1000ish fitted depending on who you use) - the only difference is that the spark plugs get changed and the brake fluid (as far as I can tell). If it has FSH you will be able to look at the last bill and if it has plugs on then it will be a small service if not then large! - that is if you decide to keep up with dealer servicing but thats another posting!!!!.

It is a similar price to what I paid for mine with similar milage, I would say if this is the ticket price and you have cash you could get it for £26,750 if you are lucky, I wouldn't expect any less, £27K if you are unlucky!! IF you are trading in then I would be very surprised if they would budge on this price.

Hope this helps,

Lig.

Following Lig's tip I have spoken to Audi who were very helpful but now I am a little concerned with it's recent history. The car was sold by the original owner in Feb 07. New owner carried out basic service, no oil change, but got cam belt done, put on 15k miles and sold it last month. The reg is ML53 OVW, can anybody shed any light?

Craig, if that had come from anyone else I would now be running scared. Yes this is the type of thing I am worried about (having previously bought an ex Gumball M5).

Hi

I looked at the car you are referring to last week. Is a nice car, wheels are a bit scuffed up. Drove very nicely, but the interior smelt a bit funny (like someone had been smoking in it) and my pregnant wife picked striaght up on it, so in the end didnt proceed any further. I am sure you will get good movement on price. I would check on the audi warranty, as they told me this but stated they had only verbal assurance.

I ended up buying a different car, picked it up yesterday evening and havent stopped smiling. It really is an awesome car!

Good luck. Let me know if you want any more information, I have viewed about 7 RS6s in the last 3 weeks, so may have seen some you will look at.

I paid 20k in Switzerland for my Avant from an Audi dealer with 1 year warranty, new front discs etc. 60k miles. Of course that is with a very weak Swiss Franc, lhd etc. and there are many RS6 here of course. It's not as rare as in the UK. Maybe not much help - lol
