RS6 gearbox problems

Post by meridian » Sat May 26, 2007 8:51 am

Hello,

I am UK based and have a 2002/52 registered RS6 Avant with gearbox problems. When started from cold, vehicle needs plenty of revs to initially move off, with a very significant jerk, and then goes to 'lock-out/limp-home' mode with all red segments illuminated on the dashboard and then pulling away in 4th gear (according to the handbook). Clearly, major problems are apparent ! As far as I know, these cars have Tiptronic (as opposed to multitronic) gearboxes and generally do not suffer from the well documented clutch problems of the multitronic boxes. Can anyone recommend a good specialist who can diagnose the problem and probably rebuild the gearbox at a sensible (ish) price ?

Thanks Meridian

Rupert,

I'm near Gatwick and know of Fontain. I think I'm going to speak with Kim Collins at Quattro Sports as I had dealings with him years ago on a couple of UR's and he is closer to me than anyone else.

They were exactly the symptoms when the gearbox in my RS6 failed & i'm sorry to say it was an entire Gearbox replace to cure. The plus was my car still had Audi Warranty when this happened, so i hope either you have a good warranty or you's is a lesser problem.

first thing is to get the oil level in the gearbox checked,by someone who knows what they are doing.gearbox oil temp is vital when checking the level so vag com at least is required.

Thanks for the comments. New gearbox is required, sadly.
