Indeed. I was working in Guernsey for about 6 months and had a few laps with a guy called Caleb who owns a Nissan Pulsar GTiR, which is.... well a little tuned . There are some good roads out there, not really top speed runs but some great challenging roads.

Hey Toots,

I can't think that my Aircon is particularly noisy, perhaps slightly more than an A/S8, but no worse than any other Audi I've been in.

The Nav+ does have a fan in it, that does make quite a high pitched whirr/buzz, and there's also an auxilliary fan in the engine bay that blows air through the little meshed slots in the carbon fibre airbox - that makes an odd buzzing noise very faintly after you turn the car off.

Chris

Yea, I would agree with Chris,

There is the noise of a fan at tickover but it's never intrusive.. and once underway the noise of the engine & exhaust takes over.

Cheers
Dave

On the subject of noises, my S3 has a pssssssss noise that is always on until a press the brake pedal... any idea`s, its been like this since day one. Is it something to do with a brake pump / pressure related?

I know the sound that you guys are talking about but this is definately the air con either the fan or the pump.

The sound is like a high pitch turbine sound which goes on and off when you operate the air con this sound can be heard at speeds up to 60-70 mph

the dealer has just recieved another RS6 and it is the same I just cant belive that a car like this has got this noise and no one else finds it a problem.

Any info would be welcome

Update

My Audi dealer agreed there was a problem and also the area manager (south of England) saw the car the factory advised to fit a new fan unit this was done with no problems but unfortunatly the distinctive turbine noise is still there.

The official Audi response is that they are all like that because of the large fan required to cool the motor.

Now I apreciate my average motoring in Guernsey is at low speed and this noise is more evident at low speed but I cant belive that all the cars are like this.

I have since writen to customer services and expressed my dissatisfaction with the car and await there response.

Your Views would be apreciated

You're quite right. Took delivery of mine from Ruette Braye last week. Before that, there was a good article in last month's GQ Magazine on the RS6 by Stephen Bayley. He described the experience from getting into the car and starting it up and referred to a "whine" which came from the aircon unit - so he truned it off and the whine went. Sure enough when I picked up my the whine was there and when the unit was turned off the noise disappeared.

I agree it's irritating but then again the upsides of the car far out weigh the down sides. Off to France soon to give it a go on some quiet motorways

Can anyone tell me what the RPM should be at idle? Even after the car's warmed up (I assume it has an automatic choke - I'm not particularly techy) it seems to idle at 800 or so which seems quite high?
