They should bleed the system and refill with new oil. Apparently, a busted o ring in the shocks sent air to the accumulator hence rendering it busted. As an oil pressurised system air in is a no no.

Look for oil around the dampers or a puddle on the floor of your garage.
A leak from the rear might be diagnosed by opening the tailgate and bouncing the rear of the car. If one side bounces more than the other, or if you think there is too much bounce (not enough damping).

tks rupert
its back at the dealer this weekend had a 30k service 4 weeks ago and they asked them to check the brakes as though was pulling a little under heavy breaking forgot to put the engine base plate back on, so had a look around and found some oil dripping of the bottom of the gearbox the guy recons just from where they changed the oil filter not cleaned it properly and running down. so said ccheck it out with them up on the ramps. so just trying to get a checklist of thinks can check out while up there. if u any other thoughts of things should be looking for would be appreciated

All done and dusted now. No knocking noises and the whole thing feels tight on the twisties. Happy days are here again.

Suspension Problems

Post by langstone » Thu Nov 30, 2006 9:35 pm

My RS6 was returned today.

Feels much better much more controlled only had a couple of short drives so far but should get to try her a bit more over the weekend.

I'm going to ring the dealers tomorrow to try and find out exactly what was done. The only thing they told me so far was they refilled the dampers and this then showed a fault code on the computer for which they had to order more parts. I'm guessing DRC components but maybe something else.

Regards

Mark

peterb wrote:Okay, I've now fixed the loose rivet in the sill extension but the rattle is still there. Most of the time, the rattle sounds like it's somewhere in (or below) the nearside doors. Just occasionally it sounds as though it's coming from the luggage area.

I also get the impression that the car isn't perfectly settled in corners - the only way I can describe it is that the car feels like it's 'squirming' diagonally (left rear to right front) when cornering at speed, particularly if the road surface is uneven.

I guess that it's time to visit the dealer before the original warranty expires in May! It's done about 23k (mainly motorway) miles.
I had my left side drc done recently, but now developed the mother of all rattles EXACTLY as you describe above, and the squirm is still there. I assume either they didn't fix the last problem properly, or the other side has gone. I'll find out either way on tues next week. Looks like she has a buyer now too so sadly she'll be gone before xmas. Just had 3.5k of warranty done on the M5 for dual vanos failure. Thank the lord for warranties. :P

Just picked up on peterb's post for the first time, I was getting the same rattle too. Only when cold though. I was convinced it was somewhere in the nearside rear door or in the boot. Got the DRC done (all four shocks) a few weeks ago and the noise has gone.
