black leather

Post by londonplus » Mon Sep 25, 2006 1:56 pm

i have had my rs6 from new in 2004 and i am now noticing that the leather is faded quite considerably from the original black natural leather that it was. in fact if you lift up the seat belt on the back seat, there is a very visible difference between where it has been covering the seat and the seat itself. A black stripe if you can imagine.

has anybody else experienced this? is this a warranty issue? surely it shouldnt fade in sunlight in 2 years? what can i do to put it right?

:? :(

I would pm jacinabox, he's a detailing legend that has a simple solution to all things aesthetic on cars!

Audi are not that helpfull on seat finish, a friend of mine has been in a battle for a while over his alcantara breaking up quite badly.

My 6+ is the same. Was black but now fading to a sort of dark brown, but not evenly. I intend to take it up with Derby Audi at the next service. It's the first time Ive seen leather do this.

Dark brown you say. Have you been driving a little too fast for your own liking?

I'd have a google for coach trimming and get their advice about dyeing the colour back- I'm sure it can be done, in fact it's probably the only way to go to get it back to how it should be, after all it's essentially 'dyed' now. I'd be surprised if off the shelf cleaners and conditioners do the job, and I'd be even more surprised if Audi are a jot of help.

thanks for the comments - my audi customer service route is not reaping much at the moment. they say to refer to the handbook where it says do not leave your car in direct sunlight for prolonged periods. that is really helpful - NOT. What they are really saying is, if you buy an Audi do not park or leave it on the street!!!

Would be interested to see a price for this ;) Excluding Audi, sounds like a £500 job.
