W8 PMC and I have had a disagreement over this on the tt forum but I reckon using the paddles is more effective/quicker.

Valet is 19th March as long as the weather holds, can't wait Dave's work is fantastic http://www.jac-in-a-box.com/

Let's hope the weather is OK, mine is being done on 22nd at the moment by a guy from Surrey. Could you post some pics when it's done and how much he charges? I might change my mind!

Cheers

Had an Autoglym Lifeshine last year and they did a superb job... After a most unfortunate incident of a lorry scratching my drivers door, had this repaired and the Audi/Porsche specialist did the whole car again but with a different product (sorry name escapes me at the moment) and the car looked like new.

and wondered howour cars would fair?

I've not had a real go with anyone apart from a spurt with a (BMW 330!) and was surprised how much welly I felt I had to employ to keep up, ie 6,000 rpm. Just remember thinking my RS4 would have embarrassed it in reverse. Having said that I'm sure I haven't found the best way to get most power out of the car at short notice - paddles? Sport mode? both? Is it me or can they be 'inconsistent' I've noticed Sport mode on some occasions really is different - other times it seems less dramatic.

As you might have gathered I'm new to Auto...
The differences are not significant. In Sport the car is very slightly more responsive, but you'd be hard pushed to notice. The manufacturers performance figures are all based on the car being in Drive only.

As for paddles vs Sport, as Damon states above, we disagree on this point, but we had very different RS6's. In my car just leaving the box in Sport was a better way to make progress on the road & track than using the paddles. In most non high end sports marques (aka Ferrari & Lambo etc.) the paddles are really more for show & to make you THINK you're an F1 driver, hence why Jeremy Clarkson hates them. On my car this was tested & tested again at VMAX events, on race tracks & on the road & leaving the car in Sport is by far the best option.

Responded to your Gearbox quote

Defo worth having Dave perform his magic. I had my RS6 done last Summer & the finish was awesome, especially with mine being a Black RS6. Think i posted details on here at the time with a link to some photos.

Thanks Paul.

I find the manufaturers figures of 4.6 s to 60 a little hard to believe thats all, unless the smoothness compared to my B5 RS4 is deceptive....?
Anyone hazard a 0-100 time for a 6+? I'm always being asked!

Cheers

I'd say it is the smoothness that's deceptive. Had mine timed a few times & i was getting 0-60 in 4.0sec & even got a reading of 3.9 once, but i'd always quote 4 to be safe. One odd timing i once got was from 50mph - 163mph (of course rolling) & that took 14 secs IIRC which i was very happy with. Top speed recorded on a RR was 204MPH.

My current car, a BMW 535D M-Sport with a DMS re-map can hit 60 in 5.5secs & that feels even more strange than the RS6, as not only is it far more comfortable & sedate to drive, it's a bloody diesel with M3 performance :D

You'll probably be happier if you could hook up some timing equipment, or even get a crude time by using a passenger with an accurate stop-watch. I'm sure you'll be seeing times beginning with a 4.
