Sold my legendary Mercedes E500 for an Audi RS6 C5
Hey folks
Yeah, so I sold my legendary E500 to buy an RS6 C5, Intelligent, stupid? who knows but sure we'll see in time.
Owned a number of Audi A6's in the past, gearbox went on all without exception, so fingers crossed this one won't kick me in the face again.
Sure it will have been owned / known by someone here in the past so info will always be welcome (just not too much bad news all in one go please).
Low miles at 67,000 with natural leather option which I've always admired.
Well, just wanted to say hi, here goes....

Welcome & congrats on finding a low miler, rare nowadays.
Head over to the C5 section for plenty of info, knowledge and (not so anymore) banter.

Welcome. There still seems to be "some" banter, just reduced due to depression perhaps, or too much happy juice although that's wearing thin as well.
Looks like you have about the same miles as mine when I bought it. Very happy with mine but I did have a fair number of issues to address once I had the chance to really live with the car. None were reflected in fault codes or anything that was immediately obvious, and they were offset by an immaculate interior so a bit of one, and a bit of the other. It's done me a favour in a way as I got to have a good look around while replacing suspension and some engine bay work. My Merc experience is Unimog only so not in your league but hope you find you new love a great buy.

Legendary; something that has become famous or well-known
Hand built by Porsche, W124 with a huge 5.0 V8 and only 10,000 ever made worldwide, been after one for years, always described as legendary and tbh, it was a great thing, just fancied an RS6 C5 more.

It's got issues for sure, all depends how folks view stuff, but so far :IchBautAuto wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 9:19 amWelcome. There still seems to be "some" banter, just reduced due to depression perhaps, or too much happy juice although that's wearing thin as well.

Shitty 20mm spacers need removing front and back
Terrible cheap tyres replaced with Michelin PS4's all around yesterday
Sat Nav has no disc and not set up (Booked in to Audi next week)
Air Con not working, ECON permanently on (re gas didn't fix)
Knocking from front driver's side wheel / suspension
But, stunning interior and with work should make a classic RS6 I think. Unimog, well that kinda trumps any other Mercedes doesn't it?

Re: Sold my legendary Mercedes E500 for an Audi RS6 C5
They all fit into the sort of stuff I found. My experiences with AUDI show that while a high mileage allroad that I owned for 6 years was complete in all respects, both RS cars have had instances of wrong fasteners, missing trim screws, poor assembly after maintenance etc. It seems to point to either a totally incompetent maintenance provider or owner fiddling when not competent. Check your suspension, that was the big issue I found, totally stuffed and it was a replacement DRC system from Audi. The system has very limited life for almost everyone. I've listed many of my finds on here and there will be even better reading from others experiences.
Let me just say that I have 3 Audi currently and in my opinion, I have never had a more reliable car for their age and use. Both RS cars have been fantastic and I have not had most of the issues that crop up on here from time to time. Let me caveat that by saying that I don't skimp on them and am quite happy to lay one up for whatever time to complete a job so I'm not stressed by having just the one running car. Best wishes for a rewarding experience.

Thanks for the insights, currently having a decent check over by my trusted garage and then will go from there, first up will be removing the non resonated rear Milltek boxes, Michelin PS4 already fitted, then the suspension rip out and replaced with the Bilstein PSS9 setup I think. Audi have it Thursday for a Sat Nav reinstall and reset to 2018 (last available apparently)IchBautAuto wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 11:59 pmThey all fit into the sort of stuff I found. Same as you, I have several other cars, so this can be spoilt to get it as it should be

Re: Sold my legendary Mercedes E500 for an Audi RS6 C5
Welcome to the forum and RS6 C5 ownership.
Not wanting to push my luck, but in my 8 years of ownership mine has been very reliable, so the horror stories that you read are not guaranteed to happen, particularly if you look after you car.
C5 RS6 forum is one of the most active and the majority of posts are helpful to others.
Good luck.
PS That Merc was rather special too.
