Hi guys
FON
Stolen last Wednesday 5/2/20 from my house with keys, while I was at work, recovered the next day in a chopĀ
Shop in Bradford undamaged, I had a tracker fitted and it lead them straight to the unit where they discovered a few other stolen cars which unfortunately had been dismantled.
The police have still not yet released the car, I haven't seen it yet and dont know whats going on but if it's really not damaged I might cancel the claim and foot the costs myself, has anyone been through this before or similar, will it show up "stolen and recovered" if I cover costs myself, if the answer is yes can I reject the car as it will be worth less??

Wont be listed as stolen recovered if you dont make a claim. Ask your insurance company that you will cancel the claim pending an engineers inspection to make sure the car is still as is and hasn't been damaged underneath etc or a blown engine.
No claim will still have a 'marker' on your insurance as a non fault claim of zero value.

Thanks guys.
As this has never happened to me before how long is it usually till the police clear the car to me, I have no contact details other than the recovery firm who just keep telling me "it's still on hold".
Will I have to pay to get it released and once it is released can I drive it or do the insurance want to see it first as for obvious reasons I want to have it independently inspected before I make any decisions regarding a claim.
Who should I get to conduct this??
Any advice will be greatly appreciated guys

Why dont you contact the police and ask them to check. Does your insurance company have the details? No idea how long police need it as its probably their forensics that need to go over the car with fairy dust hence why i would give them a call.
I think you will need to work with your insurance company as to the collection/inspection etc as you might want to reject the car afterwards and they might refuse as you took the car away. So work with them and hopefully they play ball

Thanks morski, I have contacted the police a couple of times since, they just say I have messaged the officer in charge of the case and will get him to get in touch with you (heard nothing).
CID called me originally when they found it, (but on a private number).
My insurance know where it is but as it's still not been cleared, no body can go near it.
I have had the assessor call me regarding the vehicle and the next cause of action but as I know nothing I can not really tell him much.
I will know what action I want to take once I have viewed the vehicle and had an inspection conducted as you advised.
Not too keen on AA or RAC performing this as I would imagine they would not be specialists on the RS cars. I have a place in Leeds that I take mine to, he knows his stuff so I will definitely ask him if it is something he would be willing to do.
Sorry to drone on and sorry if this has been covered before.

I think you will have to be patient and see what happens when they finally clear the vehicle for 3rd party access. i would keep pestering the police in order to get the officer in charge to contact you; be nice and ask what their procedures are and timescales etc.
good luck
